if the measure of success is simply keeping more of your money then the most successful policy would be eliminating all taxes. success is about whether the balance between tax cuts and revenue is right. if the economy suffers because we got to keep $500 more (a bone) last year while millionaires and billionaires ride off into the sunset then what was the point.
i dont think anyone disagrees with that, i was just curious how many stories we have like some of these above. one dude kept another 3 or 4 grand with his wife, dude in NY with a house got fukked over, etc

At any rate, Feds accepted my tax return today. My savings will be restored, then some.. I'll be able to put back when I had to dip into with paying an unexpected, rather large bill and a significant loss of wages and hours. Nice padding while I transition into a new career.

That was always my rationale 'til I started getting hit with an underpayment penalty. Which kinda defeated the purpose of not giving the government free money in the first place.
So now every November/end of October I change my W4 and have them take out an additional $1000 each check for the last two months just to be certain that I've kept most of my taxable income for the year until it's absolutely necessary to give it up.
I'm notorious for waiting last minute to file my returns though, so not sure how the cuts affected me yet.

Nothing I got a refund.
2017 I made $42,000 and got about a $1,300 refund (federal). 2018 I made $63,000 and I owe.
Kept my exemptions at 0 too especially knowing how the Trump/GOP tax cut was gonna pan out.

his tax cuts raised my highest tax rate, fukked my deductions for high ass CA state taxes, fukked my mortgage interest and property tax deduction not accounting for high ass housing costs in CA, only thing going for me is a quit my job in july so i was overtaxed for the first half of the year.

Exactly. Those mortgage deductions were used by a lot of poor/middle class ppl. Every Trump policy has had a touch of evil.they gutted the middle class with this bill

In the 50-75k range nothing significant on the federal level. Colorado took less and gave me more back than Illinois ever did though. #fukkIllinois
