It's because the women settled. They would easily cheat on him with a taller man if they wanted.

Women view taller men as being able to protect them. Plus they are sexually attracted to taller men because they believe taller men would give them good sex and they like the idea of the taller man towering over them in sexual positions. Women view short men as sexually unattractive and unable to meet their sexual desires.

My mother is only 4'9. She is an exception where the height didn't matter because she is so short.

My dad was 6'2 and my mom is 5'4. I'm 5'5. I'm short gang but whatever reason I never noticed. Probably because my dad was so tall I got used to looking tall dudes in the eye. Height isn't hereditary. It's actually a recessive gene so hopefully my height gene skipped a gen. If I have a son I hope to bless him with my dad's genes.

I'm 6 1. My dad is same height and he Shortest among his siblings and aunt who is 6ft. I'm the shortest amongst male cousins.
6 4 is starting height for basketball.

I've got uncles ( moms side ) that're 6'2. I work in Corporate Sales within my team there's 2 people that are 6'5 and the rest of reps are 5'8 - 6'2. In Client Services and Management - General Council, CEO/CIO are several 6'2 - 6'4. Beyond this I gym, shop and travel in public transport and have gauge.

"Tall" is relative to race and region. 5'9 is tall in America and "short" in at least 15 countries. Height is determined by genetics and nutrition and the latter will expediate the former. The most noticeable jumps in 85+ percentile occurs around 190cm mark. Irrespective of race, region or whatever other variable.
