They can't use that storyline because Roman ain't Dwaye. Rock's greatest strength is Roman's biggest weakness.

The Rock was doing all kind of slick ingenius $hit in 97 and 98. Roman puts on contacts to make his eyes look like a Justin Beiber #1 fan and says $hit like "This is REAL LIFE" to BORING chants.

Dean being over is completely unrelated to Roman. He been getting over on his own since the shield split. The shyt with Roman is just icing on the cake.
Just look back to the run he had when Roman was injured in 2014. Crowds were going crazy for dude. And everytime they gave him those kinda runs he just continued to get over. (the 2014 one, the 2015 feud with Seth and the current build to fast lane)
And foh anybody who saying my boy can't go in the ring
Breh is great in ring. Although I'm not too sure why he went from his indie/fcw/early shield technical style to the current brawling one but I'm hoping he'll get back to that when he finally turns.

Idk about classic but his promo on the raw after the shield broke up, the one from when he confronted Brock, his hard times promo at mitb and his promo at elimination chamber 2015 are some of my favorites.

Dean doing so much better than Roman rn is hilarious. Because this isn't even his peak as a babyface. I'm kinda amazed by well he's done but it could be even crazier after he turns back face after a lengthy heel run.
