I told a few people that I'm going to get my teacher's license and almost everyone gave me "don't do it not worth it"

Any teachers on here can give me some insight

Depends really on how you engage with your students, they gotta respect you but you gotta be somebody they respect.
Sometimes you gotta earn it. Don't go into the job acting like they owe you respect off the rip or try to be the cool teacher, it's fake and they know it.

Kids and teenagers I imagine is a mixed bag and really more so therapist/psychologist job with a teacher job title, then the ? Is where you teach, who the principal is, what the teacher union on etc.

But college professor is probably sweet compared to grammar school and high school

Lotta variables.

Are the admin supportive of their staff or do they kowtow to bratty parents when Little Junior acts up in class?

Do you have an assistant (more for elementary school)?

Are you "teaching to the test?" Struggling schools with poor performing students tend to focus on standardized testing too much. Successful schools already know even their bottom kids can pass state tests...so they can focus on a more well-rounded curriculum.

Teachers get a lot of time off BUT it's hard azz work during the school year. You need that vacation, assuming you're giving it 100% during the year.

Male or female? If you're a male and especially a male coach-type, it's much easier to get the students to behave compared to a 25-year old woman with a soft voice.

Personal observations from knowing a couple of people that have been teachers.

Being a teacher like being a parent, you gotta have a real passion for it and the real good ones don’t always get their props till much later in life.

Very selfless and thankless job but needed.

Salute to you breh. :salute:

I teach ESAL to a bunch of Asian kids in small classes, I wouldn't teach Western kids in large amounts if my life depended on it.

It depends a lot on your personality and ability to deal with children. Some hate it with a passion. While others will find it highly rewarding and have the tools to excel.

Thankless job
I was running through my local TFA back in the day and none of them chicks are teachers right now
A friend of mine was a "rockstar" who became a principle by 35 and even she is bouncing from the industry to do something else
You will find very few teachers who enjoy their jobs, especially ones under 50. I see a teacher crisis/shortage in the future. I'm not sure how it's sustainable with the current attrition rates. Only people staying long term are super dedicated (good) or super desperate (bad).
