I saw an article about Logic getting a #1 album without any hit songs.

Its a cool feat to accomplish but in the grand scheme of things artists like that typically get their place wiped from music history.

Its like being a QB on a winning team without actually throwing any touchdowns. Probably a bad analogy but the pretty much all artists have a hit in their catologue. Trent Dilfer got a Super Bowl ring but Dan Marino has none.

Thoughts?

I think it is something to brag about.

Hits are overrated. The fans want an album or a mixtape full of good songs, not just a couple big tracks. Also, hits are products of many factors other than just the quality of the music; current mainstream appeal being one of them. Whereas being successful without a hit suggests consistency, which again, fans like and appreciate.

Curren$y is a good example of my point.

It's nonsensical just for the fact that having a hit single is an entirely separate accomplishment and revenue stream completely. ..people conflating hit records purely with industry evildoing or the lack thereof as some kind of underdog virtue is some stupid ass nerd rap smark naive bullshyt

All things being equal, having a hit > not having a hit....In pretty much every regard

Hits are made for radio listeners particularly woman listeners, those songs are worthless, fleeting and usually the worst tracks on the album. People don't even respect it, its a cheap gratification like a prostitute. Try playing one of those "hits" a year or two later and people will laugh at you.

u r an idiot

a single is to market the project/artist to a wider audience.

because the audience is so wide the song must be easily digestible for everyone. This is why fans tend to be against hits because they stip away a lot of artists core in some cases.

Labels strive for hits because they open up a whole new avenue of promotion.

Its typically easier to further push an artist when their song is playing every hour on the hour.

fukkk what you talking about.

What are you talking about.

Fans don't care about projects anymore unless it's from their favorite artist

Hits are what keep you fed and relevant
