Success without a hit is a myth. Either you have a hit, had a hit or are were featured on hits 99% of the time
That's not even what he's asking breh.
He's asking whether attaining success without a hit is noteworthy. Which it is, for the reasons I and others mentioned.
Your whole rigamarole about nerd fan naivety is entirely beside the point.
look at my sig; it follows the same concept. J.Cole got a #1 platinum album (success) but it wasn't because of the music.
It's not noteworthy, a hit is just a separate kind of success altogether. ..it's like asking "is winning the mvp, without being named defensive player of the year worthy of praise" ...not really, they're two separate accolades. ..attaining success without a hit just means you have room to be MORE successful if you had one
This whole "hits are overrated " shyt you're on is 100% silly nerd internet rap smark rhetoric
im tryng to figure on what planet "Where The Cash At?" wasnt a hit.."fukk a hit movement"Coli Y'all.
im tryng to figure on what planet "Where The Cash At?" wasnt a hit..sh!t was all over, and i was living in Cali at the time.. if you didnt know Curren$y from Wayne mixtapes, that for sure put ALOT of folks on to him..
hell.. most these folks dont even know Curren$y used to skateboard, and his first project was actually released by DC Shoes..
alot of cats in here really exposing themselves in this thread..
Hits are made for radio listeners particularly woman listeners, those songs are worthless, fleeting and usually the worst tracks on the album. People don't even respect it, its a cheap gratification like a prostitute. Try playing one of those "hits" a year or two later and people will laugh at you.
Stop it. Most of Curren$y's early fanbase were exposed to him through Wayne's mixtapes, then him leaving YMCMB was a pop of publicity in and of itself. Then once the whole Jet Life imprint came to be, he began to cultivate a fanbase through those projects. None of which had hits.
Where the Cash At was not a hit like that.
Does Nas REALLY have any hits?? If he does they are nowhere near the magnitude of Jay, Big, Pac but he has been quite successful right?"fukk a hit movement"Coli Y'all.
Hits are the songs that people remember years later. I'd guarantee you more people could recite "Hate Me Now" line for line then any of the songs off of Illmatic, which most people would say is a top 5 rap album. And I'd betmakes more money off that track then any of the songs from his classic albums. At the end of the day having great albums is cool to cater your fans, but hit records are what you get remembered for by the majority.
I think it is something to brag about.
Hits are overrated. The fans want an album or a mixtape full of good songs, not just a couple big tracks. Also, hits are products of many factors other than just the quality of the music; current mainstream appeal being one of them. Whereas being successful without a hit suggests consistency, which again, fans like and appreciate.
Curren$y is a good example of my point.
