Pun was one of the greatest. "Capital Punishment" and Terror Squad's first album are both classics to me.

Wait, is the argument Pun was technically better than Nas on John Blaze or Pun was technically better than Nas overall?

Cuz the first one you got an argument, but the second one? Hell fukkin' no.

Em got Jay on Renegades...does that mean he's better than Jay OVERALL? Come on, man, don't be silly.

And personally I feel like Esco and Pun tied on John Blaze. Both killed it, so I can't call it. Pun was droppin' mad quotables, but that "Pay homage respect, Nas is the vet, acknowledge the rep" scheme was fukkin' crazy too. I feel like Rae's verse was underrated, too.

According to Cuban Link, Nas had a different verse on that song before he heard Pun's verse. Nas chose to rewrite his verse after hearing Pun.
nas has done that plenty of times and it's nothing special

nas changed his verse for verbal intercourse too

long story short

and? :usure:

Both were great, as a straight up MC I probably found Pun more impressive, Pun was on that elite level to me as an MC like a Rakim, K-Rino, Big Daddy Kane etc...

to me eminem is better then jigga imo.

You seem to be very impressed by cypherin' battle rhyme multi syllable type rappers, which is what Pun and Em in his prime excelled at. They are better at that particular style than Jay and Nas, although Pun also had some hood shyt for added measure. Both Nas and Jay are more well-rounded as lyricists and artists, though. They can do introspective, social commentary, depict ghetto life vividly, storytelling, conceptual, etc., and battle rap that doesn't feel lyrical miracle backpackery and that's why they are better overall IMO. Also, that style that Pun and Em excelled at hasn't aged as well as Nas and Jay shyt.

There might be some truth to this and I love Nas. Only thing is Nas has more songs to his credit because Pun died

Nas fans are a strange bunch, in fact all this "stanning" in hip hop circles is just crazy . On his day Nas is the greatest mc of all time, from the flow, wordplay, double to triple entandres, historical and hood references all wrapped up in the most mellow smooth delivery. It's really something to behold. Big Pun posses the exact same ability. It's just that nas is a Saxophone and Pun is drums or electric guitar. This is a very daft argument to have. it's like arguing who plays betteir guitar George Benson or Earl Klugh. It comes down taste coz both are straight genius , even though playing vastly different guitar's and styles on the opposite end of the spectrum. Personally I've always been a sucker for high energy thugged out street savvy lyricists like Redman, Big L,Pun, Busta Rhymes etc.

But I still recognise the smooth assassins like Raking, Nas, "In my lifetime " Jay Z,Black Thought, AZ,O.C , Ras Kass etc.

It comes down to taste. These type of threads on a surface level look or seem like "Real Hip Hop" healthy discussions. But it shows a deep lack of understanding of artistic expression. Also I'm South African , I've always found it strange that white society is always trying to quantify and grade absolutely everything. "Top 5 rappers. Top 10 hip hop verses. Top 5 90s rappers". That sounds so out of touch to me. I can name you at least 50 MCs off the top of my head who are the GOAT on their best day.

Lastly imagine someone arguing about Miles Davis vs John Coltrane on the Kinda Blue LP circa 1959. I'd consider them crazy. Peace
