As much as I love Black Thought today he's not the greatest of any era. He's just an incredibly sound emcee that hasn't lost a step. As much as I appreciate that I can't say he's had a run like a Jay-z, Nas, Pac, Big, or even 50 cent.

He will be looked at that way in the future. You have to remember that two of his homies are legitimately considered to be hip-hop historians (QuestLove/(9th Wonder). Common has also made his way into pop culture. Thought's name will come up very often, some of the times it will be tokenism, but it's going to be there.

The Roots isn't fukking mainstream? Are you shytting me? It's just that people know them as "The Roots" and not as "Blackthought". Skillwise he's absolutely incredible. But Nas/Jay/Big/Pac are just as good. There is no greatest.
My nikka....I know I clearly said “their appeal wasn’t really mainstream” meaning their intended audience was more underground. The Roots have had success but they wasn’t on Top 40 radio like Jay or DMX or OutKast even

He’s easily top 5 GOAT. Nas, pac, jay, thought and cube.

Fukk all that never dropped a solo album, clearly he spit most of the verses on the Roots albums. Classic albums, classic verses.

As far as popularity is concerned, him and hos group is pretty well known in the hipster circle. But of course the roots as a whole are known more than black thought.

Above the fray.
nice, but completely over rated.

classic feature verse?

iladelph halflife was a good album, but since malik b left the group.......roots are unlistenable

no he does not not imo.

Your opinion is wrong in this case.

He's technically a better rapper than 2Pac. That's not an opinion, that's a fact. You might like 2Pac's verses more, you might like his music and personality more, but when it comes to rhymes, 2Pac couldn't touch BT.
