Above the fray.
That's because every one of those guys has proceeded to have hall of fame careers, not because the MVP is a default guarantee to Springfield. There's a first time for everything. That's what makes Derrick Rose a tragic figure.
If Gayle Sayers is in the Pro Football HOF, Derrick Rose will be in the less stringent Basketball Hall of Fame.

Different sports and Shaun Alexander won an NFL MVP too. He'll never make it to Canton though.
You say different sport, then cite a league MVP from football.
??????????
Gayle Sayers was such a special case that the super tough football hall of fame made an exception for a guy who had carrer altered/shortened by injury.
In the less stringent basketball hall, Rose's early career dominance capped by his MVP award will gain him entry into the Hall.

HAVE YOU SEEN WHO IS IN THE BASKETBALL HALL?

It's the "hall of very good"at this point, and Rose will get in.

I'm saying even in your example it's not supposed to guarantee anything.

That's an indictment on the Basketball Hall of Fame that Rose could be a shoo-in. The Coli would let Marbury of all people in though.

I wouldn't compare Rose to Sayers though. Sayers did way more in his collegiate and pro career than Rose did in his. If Rose is gonna make it to the HOF off essentially 3 dominant seasons, you have to be straight up trash not to get in.

We both knew who is in the Basketball Hall before either of us replied to this thread, though. Who "the Coli would let in" has no bearing on the topic.

I made the Sayers mention because his career was shortened/altered by injuries but he dominated enough to still be recognized as a great. If you're saying that GS was a better football player than Rose is a basketball player, I would agree . If you're saying he accomplished more on the gridiron than Rose did on the hardwood, I would also agree.

"Should" has nothing to do with it. All league MVPs are in, or will get into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

But like Tre said, using that argument is being intellectually dishonest because Rose is the only one who had a short run as an elite player. Damn near all of them had HOF resumes without the MVP. Rose’s circumstances are the first of its kind in basketball, so using that as a precedent is kinda illogical.

Hence why I asked about the Giannis hypothetical.
