You can't necessarily blame Derrick James for Jermell showing up for a check but...
This was the second huge fight where it seemed like his fighter had no plan B. Jermell basically rode his bike all fight once he saw Canelo could hurt him but he couldn't hurt Canelo. That was an obvious possibility for a fighter going up two divisions. Maybe DJames did prepare him for that but it didn't seem like it

Charlo was hellbent on not engaging with Canelo. No plan B would've convinced Charlo otherwise. DJ was literally begging Mell to do something but Mell didn't want to.
