Not enough impact on the court outside his scoring, despite how good of a scorer he is

He doesn't manipulate defenses enough
He's one of those weird scenarios that his calling card in college didn't carry over to the pros. He was more so known for his defense, but it's completely regressed at the expense of his offensive improvement.

Here comes the anti Lamar Jackson brigade.
There's nothing anti about what I said.

Great players are supposed to get it done when it matters most. Hence the topic of discussion in this thread in the case of Mitchell.

Mitchell doesn't have Gobert to deflect blame, so at some point his postseason failures are going to have to be talked about.

Guys like Garnett and Dirk each played 21 seasons and each only had 2 Finals appearances apiece, going 1 for 2. Chris Paul, 20 seasons and 1 Finals appearance.

And so the opportunities are fleeting even for franchise players big n small; so much so that you cannot trick off back-2-back games vs Paul George and Terrence Mann with Kawhi absent and no LeBron, KD, Curry teams awaiting you in the WCFs.

That was his chance. Utah was the best team record-wise all year, all the super teams got wrecked with injuries, Bucks were shaky all post-season. Can't let Terrence Mann shatter your dreams. I don't care how trash Gobert is or that Conley never showed up all season, you gotta find a way.

He has the talent to impact the game on defense and chooses not to.
needs to improve his passing, playmaking and situational awareness while also keeping his turnovers down he averages less than 5 assist in the playoffs and 3 turnovers. easy way would be to get others going in the first half then explode late in games and keep the ball of Garlands hands, hopefully zo stays healthy and he can benefit with playing with him I want a Knicks vs Cavs ECF matchup :mjlit:

Mitchell is great

But my goodness this last playoffs against Indiana, him and the Cavs up by double digits in games continue to just shoot 3s when u was killing them going to the basket..

I really don’t get these teams who just want to sit back and shoot 3s when your staff isnt prime klay, durant and steph on the roster

It's a paradox, but a compartmentalizing of various circumstances that lead to less than stellar results when the contests aren't of regular season intensity or lack thereof. Substantial gains in roster analytical output have helped, but playoff matches aren't won analytically, but with emotionally driven basketball and who wants it more. Mobley has been very preventative against opposing teams' offenses, but he must take a more skillful leader role of offense. Demanding of the ball should be his card of calling next season. Mitchell turning into more of a guard of point would exponentially raise the floor and ceiling of Ohio and Cuyahoga county's Cleveland Cavalier profession basketball squadron.
Calm down TI.

I hate teams that have a generational big man or at least offensively capable one - and when they get a big lead spam 3s.

Throw it to the big and let them deal with his post presence and having to foul him. Change up your offensive slightly enough so the defense can't hope you turn into 2018 Houston.

Problem with Donovan Mitchell is that he doesn’t understand the importance of keeping his teammates involved. He gets bailout assists. He doesn’t really set anyone up as his first mode of thought. He’s so enamoured by his scoring ability he thinks that’s the best way to contribute. But if he was a pass first guy sometimes it would unlock everybody, even himself more. Maybe he gets there but he’s running out of prime. He’s gotta figure it out soon.

SMF and LAX to VA and NC
Lamar Jackson is 10x the player, at his position in his sport, than Mitchell is in his. Flawed comparison.

Jimmy and Reggie are probably the two biggest risers ever who never won championships.

That’s an old narrative. He sacrificed his stats so Mobley and garland can both be all stars. Too unselfish at times last season. A healthy Cavs team could’ve made noise in the playoffs but they had way too many injuries.
