North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
He gets credit for a lot so sounds he didn’t create. A lot of other producers don’t get enough credit for creating those sounds.

I think at some point he fell off and used other people to keep him relevant. He came from the 80’s. So having to adapt to the 90’s and beyond wasn’t something I don’t think he was able to do. He also don’t have a signature sound.

yes and no

yes as in hes an automatic go to for people who dont really like rap to reference when they make dumb ass 'best of all time' lists

yes in that hes kind of a hack who never really learned how to play anything until the 2000s. he was great at pushing buttons and slicing tape but he wasnt a musician yet. you can see how his music got worse as he learned structure and form. it killed what was inside him naturally. its why the best artists drop out of school

no in that hes fukking incredible and made some of the best rap music of all time

no because influence is so massive that he changed the sound of rap twice. once with the chronic (you can argue about above the law they certainly helped build that sound), and again with 2001 which basically reinvented the neptunes whos sound would be massively influential in the 2000s

no because he gave the world (for better or for worse) two proteges (i dont count kendrick, they were never that close) who are massively influential artists on their own

yes because detox is never coming out

yes because compton was kinda mediocre :why:

yes because he let Jelly Roll into his house :scust:

Depending on how you look at it i guess you could make a case

In my book his resume says greatest of all times

Preemo giving him props in a recent interview WITH THE TEAM OF PRODUCERS says all i need to hear

Is he a "nice" guy ? Probably not, a LOT of artist aren't...

His beats from 1988 until like 1995 were GOAT tier

he had a nice comeback from 1999 until like 2004. I cant remember any Dre beats i hated outside of some that were on Encore.

Dre from 2005 all the way until now is kinda hit or miss tho

Most overrated? No

Disagree with the thread title but OP is correct in saying Dre got credit for sounds he didn't create.

Above The Law were doing g-funk before it was actually called g-funk. And if you listen to "efil4zagginN" it was obviously heavily influenced by that sound.

There's something that dre does, that makes everything sound better even if he didn't compose it. 2001 is sonically the best rap album ever. If you listen it on Spotify without loudness normalization on, you'll see what I mean compared to other albums. Its amazing that he got it louder than modern songs with no distortion.
