No. We'll remember Jay more because he had longevity but, the bolded was all I was trying to say. A bunch of corny nikkas jumped on me for something everybody in the Booth has agreed on a thousand times before. Even though we all have the same memories, everybody has a different perspective on it....my perspective was Jay was hot but, never the hottest. As time went on dudes wanted to be him because he had the money, the boss image, the businesses, Beyonce, etc. But in terms of music, there were alot of rappers bigger than him. So I don't get where people think that's wrong to say. Everybody got their opinions, so whatever.
:russ:
Just take your L for saying Jay was never big and KIM. Don't try to shift the blame to others.

I don't agree. Jay-Z was never big. He was consistent.

50 Cent, Nelly, Eminem and Ja Rule were BIG. Jay-Z was just consistently dropping platinum or 2x platinum albums every year while they were doing 5x platinum, 8x platinum, so kill all that noise. Adjusted for downloading and people not buying records anymore, Drake IS on Ja/50/Nelly's level of popularity. Now that's speaking commercially. If you wanna talk about artistry, classic records and critical reception, then that's another argument and I'll agree Drake has nothing on Jay.
Jay Z marrying Beyonce in and of itself puts him into a different stratosphere than guys like Nelly and Ja Rule. You're just using record sales as the only criteria to somebody being big.

Put it like this - there's not a person on this planet who knows who Nelly or Ja Rule or 50 Cent or Drake is, and doesn't know who Jay Z is.

You are wrong for including Nelly, Ja and Em in this conversation.
I already proved to you that Jay was bigger than X (at least in terms of the pace with which he was selling albums) in 98. X was bigger by 2000.
50 at his peak went 6x platinum. Jay did 5. Of course, in that same year (2003) Outkast went diamond.

50 sold 12 million records worldwide. You're purposely trying to use US numbers so you can put 50 and Jay on the same level when it's obvious 50 Cent had more popularity.

X sold 7 million records in 1998 with Blood of My Blood, Flesh of my Flesh and It's Dark and Hell Is Hot. Then in 1999, he sold 5 million records with And Then There Was X. And he was in a bunch of movies (Exit Wounds, Belly, Romeo Must Die). From 98 - 2001, Jay-Z sold 12 million records in the US. From 98 - 2001, DMX sold 14 million records in the US and was in three different movies. So....what is your argument here :snoop: From where I'm sitting DMX sold 2 million more and was in a bunch of popular black movies. DMX felt like the bigger artist to me in the public and the numbers back my opinion up.

Then you had Nelly selling 9 million records in the US on Country Grammar, Ja Rule sold 6 million records worldwide on his best selling album, and Eminem was selling 30 million worldwide with two of his LPs.

Jay-Z sold the least out of all of them......so what is your fukking point :snoop: How can he be the "Drake" of his time when everybody was selling more than him dipshyt? Jay-Z gained his mystique because everybody wanted to be rich like Jay-Z, own a record label and have a bad broad like Beyonce. In terms of music sales and who was the bigger artist, others were selling more than him. That's fact. Stop quoting me with this dumb shyt. None of you nikkas can dispute anything I've said.

hes a performer not a rapper.... he doesnt write his own shyt so he shouldnt be in the same conversation with ANYONE let alone Jay Z ...

all that aside with his whole team of writers Ive never seen him in anyones top 5 .....

hes a decent rapper who makes good songs.... but hes never been a beast on the mike and never will be ..... also he just aint believable .... some rappers you knew they were THAT GUY even before they were famous 50 , DMX , Jay etc ........ he was never that guy and half of his raps admit that fact, and with all his money and fame he aint that guy now....

Go watch Jay Z s B sides concert ...... the amount of rappers that have that much heat that were just album cuts you can count on one hand...

I know a lot of Drake fans have a lot mentally invested in him, they want to see the "Beta" male win but them trying to force the issue of him being GOAT status is why he gets so much hate.....

The fact that he started to believe his own hype and started boasting about his pen game is one of the factors why he got exposed....

From when I heard the reference track any argument of him even being top 5 of his own generation isnt valid .... you cant rewrite the rules because your idol got found out like Milli Vanilli....

only thing he can do better than Jay Z is sing ......

also funny how dudes bringing up sales....

at one point Vanilla ice was the biggest selling rapper

at one point MC Hammer was that dude ... never seen em in anyones top 20 .......... never seen their rhymes being quoted

You think Jay was that guy before he was famous? The same Jay of hawaian sophe fame and the one who was gettin chased outta Marcy Projects :mjlol::pachaha:

I'm pretty sure rappers care about their worldwide numbers. FOH dummy.
What does that have to do with what we are taking about? I'm sure rappers like getting lucrative endorsements and starring in movies. What does that have to do with who was the biggest rapper here?

Okay, smart ass. If someone sells 5 million records in the US and 1 million overseas and another artist sells 5 million records in the US and 10 million overseas, who will the media push harder? Quick. Answer that question without deflecting.
