Only BIG BIG artists could sample these days
One sample could blow your entire budget

The suits have it sat up where only BIG artists could sample , imagine if indie artist could sample , That's why the 90s had better music because they could sample anything.

I'm talking about the culture, not a machine. nikkas will sample, nikkas have been sampling, and sampled songs still chart...Drake is not the only or main rapper charting with sampled material.
It's ingrained in the fabric...what's good with that "selling THEIR" souls to jews like you're not black yourself, nikka?

People saying that he's the only one who can afford it. Plenty of underground artists sample. It's usually a percentage, it can often be low. And you can get a preliminary go ahead. Some people are p*ssy though and charge insane percentages and that results in "we couldn't clear it".

Why only Drake? Kanye, Kendrick, Drake and J.cole are all among the hugest and use samples. Even Sean has samples on 50 % of his album.
What would be a standard percentage for sampling?

Only one talkig that drake aint "hip hop" culture is northern cats. Drake makes music that sounds good, only weirdos are sitting round on that "man i wonder who wrote that". Point blank this thread about music consumption and right now Drake is making the best sonically pleasing product when it comes to sampling.

During the glory days of "hip hop" southern and west coast cats were being black balled when it comes to radio play so i can give a sh*t about "hip hop".

These "hip hop" cats the same peons who would say three 6 mafia, master p, cash money, etc aint "hip hop"

From my impression there is no standard, it depends on who the sampler is, the negotiator and who the publisher/owner of the master recording is.
Back in the days it was usually a flat fee + a percentage that could go from 1 to 50 % depending on the how much you use etc mostly on the lower end of that. Nowadays according to my man who works at a label, that flat fee is almost gone because every song generates revenue. Unlike back in the days where only singles generated revenues. However if they know that you can pay they might still charge you some relatively smaller flat fee than they used to, due to cats making relatively more money from tours.
