Em is by far the most overrated rapper of all time. Everybody saying he’s so “lyrical” when he’s one of the worst rappers musically. Horrible beats that sound like some low budget German horror movie from the 90’s. When Dre was producing for Em in the 2000’s, he had become obsessed with making beats that sounded like they were AI generated by an AOL Instant messenger robot. Dre’s legend as a producer comes from that 88’-93’ run.
Em has no message either. What is his message? I hate my baby mother and my biological mother? And I like to do an absurd amount of drugs? Em is no way shape or form represents Detroit or the culture of the D. That’s why all the Detroit rappers under 35 not named Royce 5’9” openly denounce and hate Eminem pretty much. It’s your job as a rapper to rep your city. And Marshall was never really from Motown.
If you listen closely, Em reps Warren, Michigan and the trailer park anyway. His small stint of living in Detroit, proper, if he ever lived there at all, was included in his official bio to give him hood credibility even though it’s clear Em never had any sauce or soaked up any game if he ever lived there. Rather, it’s that whole selling point of why he’s so popular with white people. He supposedly lived in the blackest city in America but stayed white.
If Eminem was black, he would be exposed for what he is... that is... a cornball from the suburbs who’s into stereotypical suburban whiteboy shyt like doing mushrooms and acid and hating his mom. He would have no fans, no accolades, no record breaking sales and streams.
Eminem is also the biggest industry plant of all time. He never wanted to rap like an edgelord 25 year old mallrat eternally going through puberty. Ironically, his best album musically speaking was Infinite where he was doing his best AZ rendition. Em was obviously coached to do the whole Slim Shady persona. Record execs saw Adam Sandler and Weird Al Yankovich going plat off of selling prepubescent toilet humor to middle schoolers and they also realized the white teeny bopper demographic was also the number one buyers of Rap music that wasn’t bootlegs back when you had to physically buy music. They intermarried those ideas with Em and have been laughing to the bank ever since. Eminem would be a footnote if it weren’t for his white skin and white privilege and legions of white fans who don’t even rock with Rap music outside of him.
