I know exactly what he's saying. Eminem went way too far trying to prove his technical skills that he lost the ability to make consistent quality music. It sounds gross because you can tell that's all he cares about. Like he spends his time asking himself, "Did I push this rhyme scheme far enough? Did I rhyme this entire sentence with the next sentence? Where are the fukking syllables in this verse?"
MMLP 2 is the perfect example of this mentality. Technically, it's amazing. It might be his best lyrical performance in that regard. But that was when he started prioritizing technicality over musicality. You can't play that album start to finish because it just sounds like one long, never-ending freestyle with no breaks. He admitted that he wasn't counting his bars, and that's also when his voice started sounding different, his screaming was at its height, and he started using that choppy, start-and-stop flow that set him back for years.
I think this one is even better. It's an extremely rare example of him sounding smooth, being technical, and having something to say at the same time:
This song is the only time since Relapse where I can say, "this sounds like old-school Eminem." Like it almost sounds like it could be on The Eminem Show. Other than that weird sing-rapping at the end of the last verse.
It's songs like this that make me think he does this shyt on purpose, but it's impossible to tell with him. Em’s just a weird dude sometimes.
