Is having a degree better than not having one?

Depends on what field you want to go into
If you want to be a brain surgeon obviously its necessary
Is it worth getting a generic degree with no specialisation

I honestly think the problem with most people with a degree is they get the degree and think they have done the hard work
I done my degree went back to doing retail for a year or two then went in at the Base level of a company as a Trainee then flipped that into the job I studied for

BellaWish I went to community college those first 2 years but decided to move out of town and go to school near my highschool sweetheart. We broke up after freshmen year
A degree is almost never a bad thing and you will eventually find a time in your life where a job role or company considers it a requirement. The key is to limit your debt getting it and finding a job willing to pay for your masters.

Really the issue is that most people don't know what they want to do when they first enter college. Considering how much school costs, a person shouldn't be messing around like a lot of folks do. Statistically you are better off with a degree than no degree at all, but at the same time you should major in something that will give you skills to use in the workforce. That is why people generally push STEM (or more particularly a core science that will lead to medical school, or engineering, or IT), Economics, or the more concentrated business subjects like Accounting, MIS, and Finance.

The Whole STEM thing needs to be updated because OP actually has a science degree. In my opinion it should Be Technology, Engineering, and Medicine. Most pure science degrees , Chem, Biology , Biochemistry, etc are useless unless your going to medical school or graduate school to do Academia or Research. Physics and Math may be slightly useful because the Math classes should make you competent enough to do some engineering work.

the one thing people need to understand is that you can major in anything and go to med school. U just need to take the pre requisites. My opinion is to major in Nursing. that way u can still go to med school but if you dont get it. U have a guaranteed job and they will pay for your masters.

I have a degree in biology and graduated with a low gpa. No jobs really ask for your gpa, unless it's for an internship. Having a high gpa does not mean someone is smart, because people pay for grades, have sex for grades, kiss ass for grades and etc. The standardized tests ie. MCAT, PCAT, NCLEX and etc., shows your real gpa.
With having a degree in biology and trying to get a job in the science field, the majority of the time you have to start off at the bottom and work your way up. Some people do not have to do that, but from my experience, they had the right skin color. I had to work my way up, I started off as a lab tech, then worked in QA/QC, then formulation chemist and now a supervisor over the lab and production (chemical manufacturing).
My degree shyt was alright, I really don't care about it. Truthfully I forget I have a degree sometimes. I was going to drop out in my second semester, because I always wanted to have my own business. But, I stayed because of my mom and it makes her look good. Plus I shyt on people who thought I was going to be some bum.

Well it depends on the person. Most people who have degrees do not have that drive, because most have that idea that a piece of paper is a guarantee for success. Not really, you have to have that drive also.
Yeah, people do not know there are doctors who graduated with a degree in music and dance.
Also, back in the days you did not need a college degree to enter into medical school, just the pre-reqs. Colleges and med schools changed that shyt and said you need you need to finish your undergrad first, then you can go to med school.
