Yes.

I keep trying to say a lot of rappers have peter pan syndrome and seem to not understand business or the industry and that's why alot of rappers stay broke and in deb up to their knees then calling out so and so in an interview and saying they didn't give back or hold their hand when they're a fukking adult.

Look I love "real hip-hop" but pouring money into it is not smart due to samples and features and promotion and distribution and to get back maybe 50k sold these days is stupid.....

I appreciate ruckus back in the day doing what they did but damn you want some re coup of your money

A advance is just that if you get a 100k advance you have to pay it back it's a damn loan so if you don't your next album not gonna be promoted as much.

The throne got sued for that fukking grunt on the joy By sly from the family stone

Why is it these sub level rappers think they are owed something and need to be taken care of for life since you signed with someone if it's a 3 album deal and your first 2 sold wood why you want your 3rd to be promoted like your a top dog then get salty at the guy that your signed too......

On the most part, a dumb but talented artist is probably a gold mine for a record label

I'm not sure if it's the only genre but it's the only genre that I know of that does that. It has less to do with rap and more to do with black americans, there is a large portion of the black community that are essentially children in adult bodies.

act like this doesn't happen in other genres brehs :francis:

yall swear rappers are dumber than artists in other genre's

there's A LOT of failing rock and electronic artists out there too
This.

This isn't unique to Hip-Hop at all.
There are musicians in other genres who like rappers simply have this self destructive nature.
They waste studio time, get hooked on drugs, have problems with their management, women
etc.
THEN they complain afterward about being done wrong.
This is a story seen time and time again throughout music history.

Because most rappers come from a sub culture where it's common to mismanagement money....be materialistic.....act impulsively. ...thrive on self hatred and lack a true father figure in their lives..

but like someone says it's NOT LIMITED to hip hop. ..

I know plenty of FLOPPING reggae and r&b proteges of respected successful acts

Being a protege is a double-edged sword. On one hand, It can possibly take you much further than you could get on your own with just a simple co-sign.

On the other hand, it can limit you to always being looked at as "So and So's little man". Rarely do you see any sidekicks get to the same level as the big homie. Being real, most people rather be MJ and nobody really wants to be Scottie. In some cases where the protege has the potential to be as big if not bigger than the primary artist, ego could get in the way on both sides.

That's why I gotta give Wayne props for never getting salty about Drake & Nicki's success and trying to stifle them and props to them for never disrespecting him or getting beside themselves. That's rare.

Creatives go offa emotion a lot of the time, and forget the business side, that why Jay so successful, and the men are emasculated, the so called 'men' of today are not at all like the men of the 80's or previous eras ..

this definitely happens in other genres. However I think it is more prevalent in hiphop just based off the fact that the rap game is just so much easier to get in the game.

Lets be real, out of all the genres of music rap, BY FAR requires the least amount of talent/skill.
which allows tons of ppl that chance to get in the game, and ultimately to be eaten up, and spit out and milked of any money that they have or can earn.

not only is it common, its actually encouraged to waste money. If these labels got these guys needing the money then they have them hooked needing the label, giving the label/management, more leverage.

That's actually arguable. Writing lyrics to rap song actually requires a great deal of skill in comparison to other genres of music. It sounds effortless when listening to the finished product, but creating a song from scratch isn't that simple.
