I live in Chicago and it's my senior year. My grades have been up to par and I'm retaking the act in December. I have heard good things and bad things about hbcus in general. Some examples are registrations, financial aid and transcripts, they fukk those up the worst. I always wanted to an attend an hbcu ever since I can remember. What do y'all think?

Pretty bad, but I'm applying to other schools like jackson state and niu. I wanna leave the city for a new environment.

Howard is one of the most exclusive hbcus, so you're grades and intangibles gotta be nice unless you're white and trying to get in on that minority scholarship lol. Still give it a try though

Tuition and maybe room and board included is like 30k a year or something absurd. DC is also one of the most expensive cities in the country, but its fun as hell - definitely liked staying in the district.

Like all things college though it depends on what you want to study. Howard is primarily oriented towards the buisness and political science/law sorta thing, with emphasis on their grad programs (since they are in DC). May not be worth going in debt to live in a cool city for a few years while studying something that the school doesn't prioritize or have a reputation for

yes, just expensive as hell to live in. hampton is also a good choice. two of the best hbcus. administration wise yes there will be problems but you'll have a great time and develop life long friendships with future black leaders, aint nothing wrong with that :manny:

Howard is a great school, but its a party school. Also not far from the black party area in DC (U street).

If you go, just stay focused.

Well I would say make sure you take a course on the act or get a tutor for act before you take it again

From Chi too....look how these 'groids handle business. Howard been dead. It's just an expense 13th grade at this point. HBCUs dont even teach any African languages, so what makes them "black"? Daddy telling you they are? :mjpls:

:usure: Also, check who Spelman is NAMED AFTER. :sas2:

Howard Univ was paid to run ads for 7AM on Dec 19th. They even sent us this completed radio spot done by their staff on Dec 29th. Yet now they say "no one was in the office after X-mas" and that no one ran the payment so the ad hasn't actually been running.
We were just told this TODAY. So now we see why the HBCU's are in trouble.

i would go to u of illinois if i was in your situation. one of the best schools in the nation and you get in state tuition because it's public. that's a no brainer for me. i got respect for howard, but they aren't worth $23k just on tuition alone. check out some of the public hbcus like famu if you really want to go to one. you pay out of state the first year and then get residency status for the remaining 3 years (that's how it was for me at UCLA).
