The international community started boycotting Haiti in 1804. In 1838, Haiti was desperate to make up with the french and agreed to pay former french slave owners reparations... this led to Haiti acquiring a debt that would wreck the country's economy for a long time and was only paid off in the XX century.

Then Haiti was occupied by the US from 1915 to 1934... and afterwards pretty much economically dominated by the US too, post World War II.

BUT. Haitian governments played a strong role in the country's ruin too... they did a bunch of shyt like slave-like labor systems in the early republic, the elite hogged all the wealth and fukked over the poor, they used human rights violations as a tool of oppression and plus the government is generally suuuper corrupt.

They have a french mentality. The elites of Haiti are primarily black/french/arab mix, which is why they look so fukkin weird. Keep sleepin though. Im not sayin light skinned nikkas are bad im just sayin thats how it is when you get to the top. Typically the light skinned nikkas were the ones that got special treatment and were the first to be rich in haiti so they had a head start on the rest of the nation, being close to massa figuring if they act like him they'll be safe, and they were. Little has changed in that regards when it comes to money.

There is lot of truth to this. I was there in 04. Opened the paper to look at the chamber of commerce pic, and it was one dark skin cat (Sineas I think) and 12 mixed dudes. These mixed families are like the fortune 500 companies in the USA and abroad. These dudes drive these tinted out, AC blasting, 4x4's down from the mountains to go their factories/stores right in the slums. The worse sight was cat who sells supplies to those ladies that sell stuff on the streets and sidewalks just mean mugging his clientele he didn't or couldn't even hide his disdain for them.
