Thinking of joining the RAF
Took my AST about 3 weeks ago but was 1 mark off passing for the trade I went for (it was in the electrical section) so I have a retest next Thursday.
What role were you thinking of going for?
Appreciate the answer, good luck btw.
Regiment Gunner.
honestly it depends,Christmas of 2019, I will turn 22. As of the time I'm writing this, I have accomplished nothing noteworthy in life, have dropped out of college twice, and have no passions or dreams in general. To put it bluntly, I am lost. I don't know where I'm going. I wanted this year to be the year that I focused on physical/mental health over anything but I'm realizing that those efforts will be entirely fruitless if I do not have goals set in place following them.
The thought of joining the military has crossed my mind more than a few times in the past but out of fear, anxiety, or the idea that I'd be ruining my chances of finding happiness in my supposed "golden years", I wrote it off. Now I'm back at the drawing board hoping something sticks. I like art. I want to become a painter when I get older although it isn't a lucrative profession so I'm looking for something to support that hope.
To make this a short post, I'm simply referring to the question asked in this thread title. Apologies if this post has been asked before or if there appears to be an obvious answer.
Thanks breh hopefully it goes well. Have you already applied?
Nah not yet, not anywhere near ready if I’m honest.
I’m a bit cautious about how Ill fit in around all those military cacs, havent seen many brehs in the forces and the ones that are seem a bit![]()
Man i was gonna say something similar in my last post, there probably wont be many black people in there man or even other races in general. Whilst you're in there I guess it may help in just grinding and doing your own thing. Theres a lot of opportunities available, and I guess you'll meet a few cool cacs![]()
Thats facts breh.
At the end of the day it’s just a chance to grind and reach our own goals.
Doesnt look like the benefits are anywhere near as good as the Americans though.
WOW!! I wish you nothing but love, g. You reached your goal. I'd rep you if I could but the Coli Gawds say I've gotta slow down.I passed the AST on Thursday breh
Next step is the medical which shouldn't be a problem but that fitness test I need to get my time down and lose a bit more weight.
If you do apply try and pass that shyt first time, I found the AST 1 a lot easier than the AST 2
There were about 25+ other people with me doing the exam, I think about only 5 max of us actually passedeveryone came downstairs looking sad as hell or just signing out and leaving with the quickness
@נιмму тωø-тιмєѕ™ You still gonna join the RAF?

But yeah, it was a hard decision to make but I decided to go back and finish my studies. If you look in the 6 figures 6 certs forum you'd see that it was a choice between the RAF or finishing my studies. To not be broke I ended up moving back in with parents to not pay rent. This allows me to save big bank like I would if I was in the RAF.
I'm also working towards gaining my certs and I've just got an IT job too not so long ago. So the the allure of what initially drew me to joining the RAF which was saving a fukk ton of money and getting skilled up academically before leaving has all but diminished in the sense that I could achieve the exact same thing and stay on mainland saving the same amount of money if not more. I didn't plan to stay past 5 years there anyway.
Money is the driving factor in everything I do. It has to make sense financially first before I make a decision rationally.
One thing about mentally/academically/physically training to join the RAF taught me was to get my health in check in all regards.
Breh, I'm telling you by just completing the physical training alone to pass the fitness test is something that I have continued to do for the rest of my life. That shyt has turned my life around something crazy. I know it's never too late to join the RAF as I'm still young but my career is looking positive -- so far so good.![]()
Congrats breh, hope you have a good career and stay safe![]()
