Hubie Brown On Why The Modern NBA Is Easier | Mike And Mike

“The threat of the hard foul today, the flagrant foul, is an embarrassment to our game. now, are some of these guys getting cheap shots? absolutely. but when you get a flagrant on you today, all right, it’s a lot of money. what it has done? it’s taken away the difficulty of getting to the rim. shot blocking is down. in the old days, you’re going to the rim, i’m going to foul you from the wrist to your elbow, not hit you in the head or in the neck area. i’m not going to hit you there, because now you can’t get your arm up above your number, so you can’t get off the shoot. if i take away hand-checking, the forearm, and then take away the threat of the shot block — because that’s what they’ve done to the rotations now — i can be a great shot blocker today, but they take me to a flagrant foul any time i block a shot and i might come down and maybe hit the guy on the top of the head it’s an automatic flagrant foul. well, i think that that is the main complaint of the older player, and the older player will say this: ‘take away that stuff in the freeway, i could have averaged five to eight more points a game.’ for the great scorers. you know what? you can’t tell me they wouldn’t. number two, they also say now, ‘where are the plays? where’s the cerebral part of the game? where are the great offenses that we saw for years and years? where are you getting me a great shot with the shot clock down in the last four, five, six seconds in my best areas? where’s that challenge for the coaching staff?’ well, the player coming in, the one and dones, any coach will tell you the cerebral part of the game is down, because now we run pick-and-roll, pick-and-pop, one-on-one. why do you do that? because you can get to the rim. you can get to the rim without the hand-checking, and without the hard fouls. so that is the major — i hate to get on such a soapbox, but that’s their side of all of this.

pussies will play like pussies. it's a grown man's game in the 90's. only advantage i see from today's players they are better 3pt shooters. and all because we got soft ### rules for soft pussies

small ball don't work in the 90's. every teams had enforcers. and game played differently. it was inside then out. and these nikkas playing in the 90's will play in that rule. and that means they would have to adopt to the rule they aren't familar with. so they must adapt to the game.

it's a simple logic nikkas.

Now if you ask me with most players turning into at least competent 3 point shooters out there.

I have questions about Curry and Durant...i have seen both get flustered in the playoffs where teams are allowed to get more physical...

Like...could you imagine Dennis Rodman guarding KD for a playoff series :patrice:...forget the physical aspect I just don't think KD is equipped mentally to put up with Rodman's gawd tier troll game...

I legit can't even rate Harden...he has to change virtually his entire game...

The thing about KD and Curry that makes me the most :patrice: is what happens when they get one of those uber hard knicks vs bulls fouls that they wouldn't dare get in the nba today...

For example...

Charlie Ward tries to box PJ Brown out...PJ Brown says fukk that flips charlie ward upside down and tosses him out of bounds just because...fukk it:hubie:

So my question is...how does steph react if he tries to box a big out on a freethrow and that big just turns him upside down and dumps him out of bounds on the floor...

Same thing with KD....where is his head at?

There is no doubt that KD should be able to embarrass PJ Brown all over the court and score on him with his eyes closed...until he tries to post PJ Brown and PJ Brown just says "fukk this" and dumps his ass in the front row...the next time KD gets the ball and he is supposed to post PJ Brown...will he post him knowing PJ Brown will just dump him on his fukking head?

I don't really know the answer to that question cause aint no way in hell any player in the nba right now is doing that so some shyt like that don't even enter KD and Steph mind now...

i already saw a much better defender than dennis rodman check durant...and durant gave him 30 with ease over the course of a series

not every team in the 90's was the 96 bulls.

Kawhi is a great defender...but we talking about 90's dennis rodman who could clothesline you at any moment...

Elbow to your dome AND shoving your bytch ass into the front row just cause...90's ball...

Soft as KD is...I don't know if Momma D don't have to come down and just take her baby boy home...

shyt this the 90's KD coping mechanism of multiple social media accounts don't exist yet so he don't even have an outlet for this type of defense :mjcry:

all of them will average 3-4pts less in the 90's

1. harden - 26 at most. he won't be able to bully his way to the FT line. too many quality bigs in the middle.
2. giannis - too many solid bigs in 90s. he won't get to the rim at will. i would say he averages 23-24
3. bron will be just fine
4. curry - steph will struggle big time. defenders will just be all over him. curry is a perfect example of a great shooter who benefits from a soft ass era. and i like curry. but tough handchecking D will mess him up pretty good22-23 is my guess
5. cousins - first he won't be shooting 3s cuz coach won't let him. and he is undersized center. will struggle against quality centers. 22-23pts
6. lillard - another big drop off. no way he averages anything more than 20
7. porzingis - i like unicorn, but he's gonna get manhandled. 20 at most
8. davis - he will be a defensive specialist. no way he averages anything more than 20
9. KD - will be just fine
10. booker - :mjlol:

only bron & KD are transcendent.

yall nikkas must never played real basketball. :hhh:

Curry will be aight. he is just an incredible scorer. He'll give you at least 25 points per game in any era

porzingis height is an advantage. You think Shawn Bradley was going to lock him down?

everyone in the top 10 in scoring right now would get buckets in any era.
nikkas bringing up pacing like it isnt in direct correlation to skill and the game advancing
the better you are at getting the ball in the hole the faster you can try to do so.
theres way more skilled players now than the 90s.

:camby:I.T. AVERAGED 30 LAST SEASON.

HE WOULDNT AVERAGE 20 IN THE 90S.

is that your outlier? he shot 47 from the field and 37 from 3....while being the go-to offensive option
the 90s allowed a 5'3 nikka to be a productive role player
WE'RE JUST MAKING UP BLATANT LIES NOW?

way easier today. the game is all pick and roll, drive and kick. just be able to knock down an open jumper.

paul peirce, tracy mcgrady, and dirk have all said its easier to score now. thats not an insult to the players, the game is just more wide open. there weren't nearly as many floor spreaders in the 90s as their are now.
