4.)Car technology has taken off even in just the last 3-4 years. Far more safety and drivers aids like lane keep, auto breaking, adaptive and automatic cruise. Engine efficiency has allowed huge power gains.
5.) Rise of drones
6.) Fashion went from semi 90s to a strange mashup of every style of the 80s
7.) R&B was still prominent in 2006
8.) Went from jokes about never having a black president to a black president closing out an 8 year stay in the White House
9.) China has gone from the certain successor, to reluctant to get out of its own way economically. Similar to Japan 1986 vs Japan 1996.
10.) Rise of the drone for military and civilians
11.) Rise of cellphone = rise of events being filmed.
12.) Rise of youtube
13.) Acceptance of research that was controversial in 2006, now kind of mainstream.
14.) Reality celebrity status has really blown up. Remember, Kim K's tape came out in 2007. There were reality stars before, but the last decade has seen this stuff go mainstream.
15.) Whites in the US are definitely bolder about their rhetoric. The Obama Effect.
16.) Cutting the cord went from not even possible to a serious threat now.
17.) Saudis cutting up has been exposed.
18.) Putin and China have become bold as hell seizing territory.
Beside cellphones, cord cutting and recent car advances, people's lives change really slowly. Besides the tech things, I don't think life was that much different in the 80s and 90s. In the 80s we had so much cold war stuff. Americans were loud mouthed, wrestling loving rednecks then. Still are.
