Is it me or is gangbanging more popular than ever in rap?

I grew up on 90s hip hop so obviously the bloods/crips element was heavy. But it seemed that stuff was mostly reserved to the”hardcore” rap

but now that i got 14 year old nephews and listen to the stuff they listen to... it seems like EVERY rapper is repping a set. And it be the most rhythmic jingly shyt too. :mindblown:

So is there something to this or am I having convenient amnesia about the past?

No it wasn’t.

Quik was the 1st nikka to say his set on record in 87 and nobody else really started shouting their sets out until the peace treaty

and i remember The West Coast had "All in the same gang" around a year or so later :yeshrug:

Self Destruction was about all the robbing and murders happening in NYC, not gangs.

In LA gangbangin itself was at an all time high, it just wasn’t promoted on record.

They didn’t even put real gang colors in the video.

That was a no no back then.

It's a popular subject for some rappers, but the ones that claim they are active aren't the most popular..... If that makes sense
