Is it possible to get a decent gaming PC for $600?

you don't really need a $400 card. you'd be good with a gtx 660 (@$200) or better

i agree.
fukk paying $400 for a card.
i have a 560ti and it handles everything i throw at it with everything set to max and getting 45-60 fps.

only game i've had a problem with was Sleeping Dogs and all i had to do was turn the Anti Aliasing from high to medium.
at high AA i was getting 12 fps.
at medium it shot to 45-55 fps.
everything else was set to extreme and i have the enhanced texture pack.

the 560ti is about $250-$260 and i will be rocking this for the next 3 years.

whats your setup look like? Im debating on building my PC first or going with the surface pro first.

Jesus breh those are entirely two different breeds of PC breh. I personally built my home PC with some pretty impressive parts. The initial build took place over 6 years ago but ive upgraded it in stages since then (i.e. mobo, processor, and graphics card, OS) on seperate occasions.

Desktop: i5 3.20 Ghz processor, Nvidia GTX 680, 50T of HD Space, 8 gig RAM, Windows 8 Pro, Blu-ray Writer, I also bought an Asus Board recently but cant remember model number.

Mobile: Yoga 13 Windows 8 Laptop with i7 processor. The shyt gets insane battery life for a 13inch laptop (8hours)

Surface RT is also in my repetoire but honestly, i'm so enamoured with my Yoga 13 that im considering selling it. Its a phenomenal PC, but it is clearly a stop gap for someone that cannot afford the Pro or a newer Windows 8 touchscreen ultrabook. It is a capable PC, but performance issues due to its underpowered hardware truly inhibit its true potential. The Surface 8 Pro should be a far better buy, but the battery life compromise is HUGE, possibly too much so to be considered a true alternative to an ARM mobile device.

But the beauty of the Windows ecosystem is that with windows 8 ALL my devices are synced simultaneously. PC settings, browser setting, desktop pics and settings. shyt is flames friends.

I feel like im in the future with my shyt. Hopefully Apple improves its OS offerings to match pretty soon.

And for the record ALL of these aforementioned take enormous shyt on the IPAD or any Google device for that matter. Any denying this is simply delusional at this point and not worth it.

Think I'm gonna just roll with the $200 GTX 660 like daze23 and Orbital-Fetus suggested.

$400 for a gx card is cray, That's a Console or a laptop/desktop in of itself

but if ur a nerd and balling then why not?

I just wanna play the upcoming Battlefield 4 on max along with a few next gen games

a 660 will barely play battlefield 3 on max, let alone battlefield 4

it all depends on how much money you want to spend. but "future proofing" is just a myth. when was the last time you heard someone brag about their gtx 480? a gtx 580 barely outperforms a gtx 660. all these disposable income cats that copped a gtx 680 will probably turn around and cop a gtx 780 when they drop

the thing is people that play multiplayer games competitively tend to turn everything down to low/off (aside from texture size/quality. as that is just tied to video memory, and doesn't effect performance otherwise), regardless of their system. first of all, you're gonna want the fastest performance. and secondly, a lot of that DOF, blurry, lens flare, crap just makes it harder to see people

SP games are a different story...
