The assumption here is that you would learn the language before going to live there. Which is ridiculous. So you get a job offer in Finland designing boats, you're telling me you gonna learn conversational Finnish in however many weeks you got before the job starts?
Or you meet a bad bilingual Japanese jawn and wanna settle down over there.. who tf is learning enough Japanese outside of Japan to be conversational. Now learning the language once you're there. Thats understandable. But learning is different for everyone. As long as it seems like you're putting forth an effort that should be enough. The people that move somewhere and don't even try yeah I'm with you, thats nuts.
