Is it racist to require immigrants in an English speaking country to learn English?

the prime minister of England posted this and the responses have been mostly angry ones. Lots of claims of racism, fascism, etc but I dont see it that way. If you move to another country and you dont know the language you should learn the language. If i moved to France I would try my best to learn French

thank you. and now that i think about it there's people that weren't raised with manners that will also not speak when spoken to and they are free to live as well
nobody is forced to communicate in any type of way so it doesn't make sense to require a specific language as a matter of law

Montreal, Canada has a French Language requirement. If you do not speak French, you are relegated to tourist and minimum wage jobs. To work a high level job, you have to speak fluent French

This is how it should be done. Don't "force" people to learn English. Just reward people monetarily who are fluent in English

I'm planning a trip to Europe and a part of the preparation is picking up local languages just in case....not to mention what if I want to speak to someone?

Here’s the easy answer, what language is taught as the primary language in that country’s schools?

What language is their constitution written in?

What language is on their currency that isn’t a dead language?

What primary language are contracts written in?

Etc.

It would be better for you to learn because it would make it easier to move around but it shouldn't be a requirement. You know how easy it is be taken advantage of if you don't know the language.
