preach breh:ohhh:
you idiots need to stop worshipping MDs

it's an applied profession, has nothing to do with science unless you're a medical researcher

a physics PhD / research scientist uses his background everyday, an MD can forget his science and still be a good physician/surgeon/whatever

i guarantee your GP don't remember nothing from calculus at this point (if he's not super young for a doctor)

as if a regular old doctor who diagnoses colds and shyt uses science day to day :mjlol: stop it slime, you use more business and liberal arts (interpersonal) skills

And nerves of steel. You can't train yourself to be calm and steady handed when blood is spurting out everywhere and that little beep machine is going haywire. It takes a different type of person.
1) That is not the norm...

2) You will be trained to deal with those extreme situations...Ignorance creates insecurity, knowledge and experience promotes confidence...And learning to be a surgeon is NOT beyond the average Human Being...

3) You are part of a team...Collaborate with your teammates...

basic science is irrelevant to the daily work of a regular doctor, you keep talmbout all that undergrad education and theory education in med school like it really matters in a surgery room

yes you can teach a high school kid to pull teeth and drain out cysts, it'll take a day each :mjlol:

all the training required is because they need to keep the supply of new doctors low to keep their wages up

imagine how ridiculous it would be if they invented a 4 year professional degree beyond a bachelor's for another applied profession (for idk, plumbing) and they had all sorts of honor codes and decorum so they can pretend they're not just people who work with their hands at the end of the day (who happen to be well paid)

I say the something when studying biochemistry, but you really do need a good foundation in sciences before moving to the clinic I do think it is a little overstated about how hard it is to become a doctor. It really takes dedication more than anything.

Most people barely passed algebra in high school and you think we should really discuss whether or not its hard to be a surgeon?

Algebra is easy. Like I said before, practice, practice, practice. How much time are you willing to put into practicing and studying?

if it was easy you wouldn't have to practice and study :childplease:

btw I never studied and still got great grades in the class

The point is jobs that require a high level of education and skill are not easy at all. Don't just say if you work hard, you need a certain level of intellect and that extra kick of dedication plus more. That's just for the education. The actual job, is being able to apply all that you learn under a great deal of stress. nikkas don't just walk in and perform surgery.

you've convinced me breh
being and becoming a surgeon is not hard :ehh:
'Hard' is relative...

I personally do not believe MEMORIZING anatomical structure and pathophysiology and practicing surgical technique on cadavers is "hard"...That shyt is a piece of cake to me...

I have learned that many people don't attempt challenges because they seem "hard" but when you get that knowledge and practice, you will wake up 10 years later
What do you do for a living?
1) I have done many things...Recently I was a Physiotherapist's Assistant, and then realized I was being "cheated" for knowing just as much, but getting paid much less...

So, I became a Physiotherapist...I worked in a Mental Health Hospital...I was observing what was going on and noticed that, when we had patients who coded (health status rapidly declined), the nurses with lots of intensive care (ICU) experience were SCHOOLING the new Resident Doctors...

Once I even heard a new resident doctor say "if it wasn't for the nurses' help, I wouldn't even know were to start"....This is VERY COMMON...

These nurses have gained the most CRITICAL (life and death) medical experience through years of experience, and they WERE NOT getting compensated for their knowledge and experience...

2) I wanted to validate my observation so I spoke with my father who is Medical Doctor, and his opinion was that nurses in the USA and Canada are so WELL trained that they could pass for doctors in Third World countries, and it was pretty much a waste of time to be a nurse over long period of time, because if you are actively learning and keeping up with new research, eventually, you will gain the knowledge and experience to make good clinical decision...Better than an inexperience Resident Doctor...

But, the Resident Doctor will be given more money and power than you...

3) So, I said fcuk it...I will go to Med School and become a doctor too...So far, this shyt is PURE MEMORIZATION...Anybody who has a critical thinking mind can become a doctor and go on to become a surgeon...It is time consuming and requires DEDICATION...

But I WOULD NOT define this as "hard"...

4) To be honest, I have a STRONG academic background...And I will admit maybe that's why it seems easier for me than it would for certain people...But one of my classmates has VERY LITTLE post-highschool science experience than me...But she is getting better grades than me...Why? She spends more time studying...It is a lot of work but she doesn't find it hard to learn...

I don't think medical school is terribly hard. At the same time just because I can do it doesn't mean everyone else can. I do believe more people, especially black males can/should pursue a career in medicine. I really wish I could figure out what I can do to make this happen.

it might be hard to become a surgeon (3.9 premed, 33+ mcat, top 25% of med school class probably) but its not hard being one that's for sure
unless for personality reasons you hate the work

your regular mall dentist has comparable academic credentials (top of undergrad, top score in whatever the MCAT/SAT/etc. of dental school is, etc.) and his job is simple

pharmacist, even simpler
