This dummy wasn't even smart enough to do well in his undergrad science courses, let alone medical school and surgery. Now he's a sad resentful massage slave. In other words, a "physiotherapist".:laff:
1) Nonsense...

2) If you go to Johns Hopkins Medical school, you will find a student who aced high school, aced the MCATS, but he or she is struggling with medical school...It doesn't mean that person is a "dummy"...

Failure has more to do with the environment than the individual...Flying is VERY safe because the people who studied air flight safety realized that blaming individual pilots was not effective, you have to look at the entire system, and when they did that, they noticed that more times than not, a bad system makes people fail...

This model of safety has permeated to almost all successful industries...

3) People go through struggles...People go through awakenings...

Bruh if you think that Step 1 material determines how good of a physician you will be you are mistaken. The first two years are preparation so you know whats going on, they are not real medicine. The difficulty in becoming a surgeon is the time required. Surgical residency is 5 years and you will be worked like a dog.

Brachial plexus, Krebs cycle, glycogen storage diseases etc. is not what this is all about.

Lastly, surgery has a certain personality type. Hypercompetitive! Its not as hard as other things but trust me even in practice general surgeons are working 60 hour weeks, that factors in.

1) I have telling these people that the Step 1 is bureaucracy, and is NOT an evidence-based determinant of a future excellent doctor...It is an American thing...

2) Time is required for ANY profession...This is what I have been stating all along...The skills themselves are not hard to acquire, but you need time and repetition to master the knowledge and skill...

3) The "personality type" is created by the Elitist Bureaucracy...There is NO evidence that a certain personality make for better surgeons (if we control for the bureaucracy)...Whenever the system creates a "bottleneck" type passage then competition becomes extremely high...

4) All types of professionals are putting in crazy amounts of time...This is just life in North America...If you are not doing overtime, you lacking...

He has a point, surgeons are basically mechanics with delicate hands.

Obviously far more knowledge is neccessary. Because the body is more complex. But what if you had a way to practice and watch youtube videos of surgery. But I still wouldnt say it isnt hard. You'd have to have more nerves of steel than everybody on the planet. Other than people who diffuse bombs for a living

The only thing I will add to this:

A surgeon’s skill like ANY profession breaks down into three categories:

1. Top tier, highly skilled surgeon which makes up roughly 20%
2. The mainstream surgeons, makes up around 60%
3. The wack ones 20%

Just because the process to become a surgeon is difficult doesn’t mean that you want any surgeon performing surgery on you.

And this applies to most professions. Not all electricians are equal.

I’ll leave you with this quote:

“Death by medical error or accident is the nation's leading cause of accidental death, exceeding all other causes of accidental death combined. Medical error and accidents kill approximately as many people each month in the U.S. as Covid-19 did before vaccines became available.”

If you're a surgeon you have to wake up early. Like really, really, REALLY, early and often leave late. When I was med school, I was like "fukk that". I don't regret my decision. :yeshrug:

My cuzzo was like "I see 50 year old surgeons working 80 hours a week, I ain't bout that life" I said I get it.

After residency who wants to still work over 60 hours a week?
