is it that hip hop at such an all time low that an album like to pimp a butterfly gets hated on?

hip hop been shytty for yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeears now and i think it's a combination of 2 things

SOME people who been listenin' to hip hop longer than pre 2000 have even become immune to the last almost 20 some years of hip hop's shytty years

then the other is, there's a few generations who now have grown up in a world where they didn't come up listenin' to great artists like nas, wu-tang, outkast, scarface, tribe called quest, dre n snoop in they prime, 2pac, biggie, and so on so they only know the last 5 to 10 years of this shyt field era of so called hip hop. they don't know no better

the album was great but i think the nikkas that sleep on it is because they just want music for the club, they not even givin' it a chance really

This. When your foundation years are full of Mims, Jibbs, Lil' B, Soulja Boy and Lollipop Lil' Wayne, you honestly never stood a chance. That's why I can't get too mad at how trash people like Uzi Vert, Ralo, Rich the Kid, and Lil' Yatchy are, cause the person being called "great" and a "legend" during their formative years was kissing another man that wasn't his daddy and calling him daddy.

This is indicative of the state of hip-hop today. While I don't think TPAB is a classic, it was still one of the best albums of last year, and a vast switch in lane from where hip was that year or even this year for that matter. I mean don't get me wrong there's nothing wrong with critiquing a piece of art but Kendrick Lamar is the only rapper in which people reach harder than the Bionic Commando to shyt on and discredit in and out the booth. But this is also where music is going because many of these new rappers were either very young or weren't born during the Golden era or even the Silver era, so people have not heard an album that plays more a collective piece than a collection of club singles.

I honestly dont know anyone outside of this forum who talks about this album or listened to it for more than 2 weeks. The way y'all go out of your way to vouch for this album is hilarious too. Someone actual called this album influential the other day. :mjlol: B...b...but they was playing Alright at marches. :heh: This album is inferior to GKMC and S80 in every way possible. It ironically reminds me a lot of F&L 2.:ehh: Good concepts but bad execution. But I expect the fake militants who sit online all day to eat this stuff up.

Thread is full of generalizations, on some "if you're HH" you HAVE to like TPAB. I think THAT'S where the whole "it's shoved down our throat" comes from.

Different tastes. I'm a 90s kid, grew up on Nas, Prodigy, Pac, Gza and them, Sean P, Doom, moved on to Marciano, KA, Staples...can't stand Drake, never really was a fan of Lupe for some reason, don't listen to "turn up mumble rap" either. But there's something about GKMC and TPAB that just don't work for me. I'll never say it's wack because obviously a lot of work went into those albums, but it doesn't work for everyone. Really liked Section 80 at the time, but afterwards...and I tried listening to both albums AT LEAST 15 times each, then gave up:yeshrug:

You don't have to like the album. Some of y'all force yourselves to like whatever Kendrick drops. When was the last time y'all even thought about the album?

I haven't listened to TPAB since the third week it was out. Yet I still regularly play GKMC lol

TPAB is similar to Isaiah Rashad's album in the sense that the production, at times, outshines Kendrick's performance.
