- Timbaland's impact and influence>>>>> Kanye's. You have him breaking new ground with the drum programming he was using in the mid- 90's with the Aaliyah and Ginuwine albums. Then he came with the Middle Eastern and Indian samples with "Big Pimpin'" and "Get Ur Freak On". Then there was the beginning of the Euro dance scene in which "SexyBack" and "The Way I are" helped push mainstream. There's producers from T-Minus, Boi-1da, J. Cole, even Kanye himself who cite Timbo as an influence. You have Stevie J. saying Timbaland's sound influenced the production on "Notorious Thugs".
- Timbaland has produced or helmed R&B albums and Pop albums that were huge and had a big impact on music. There's
The Bachelor,
One In A Million,
Futuresex/Lovesounds, and Missy's albums. Kanye's done R&B and Pop records, but nothing he's done in those genres outside of Alicia's "You Don't Know My Name" and his work on
Get Lifted comes close to what Timbaland's done with those artists.
- Kanye doesn't have the longevity that Timbaland has. Timbaland broke through in '96 and is still relevant solely as a producer. Timbaland produced some of the biggest albums of 2013 and this was 17 years after scoring his first big record.
- Look at the careers that Timbaland impacted vs. Kanye. Who knew who Ginuwine was before "Pony"? His sound shaped Missy's entire career. "Cry Me A River" legitimized Justin Timberlake as a solo artist. He re-defined the careers of Aaliyah and Nelly Furtado. He's also been influential in the career of Jay Z. He's given these artist their biggest and more importantly, some of their best records.
- You want to talk envelope pushing, ground breaking and innovation? Timbaland had crickets and laughing babies on Top 40. That's not to mention, he produced a dope Hip Hop/Country mash-up for Bubba Sparxxx.
