the following quote breaks down the real reason according to one of his producers who wished to remain unnamed but it's pretty much assumed that it's t-ray, who produced for the artifacts and alotta other cats in the mid 90's. dude caught alotta hate and was labelled a snitch when he said this a few years ago on a website but since it's out there already i'm gonna post it.

"I did shyt with G Rap when he literally had a hit on him. We had to go upstate New York to a secluded studio - in the woods - where we lived. Something had happened where somebody that he knew had killed somebody, and the last place they had been was at his apartment. Somebody had taken a cab from his place and killed the cab driver, and cops show-up at his place - with guns drawn - and kick-in the door and almost shoot him coz they think it’s him! that's nothing.. until that tribe documentary came out.. nikkas still didn't believe me when I told them Q-Tip produced most of tribes music. They thought it was all ali shaheed muhammed.

Everybody should've known that though.

Tip always did outside production without Ali anywhere in sight. Ali had tracks too, "Got" for Mos Def might be his best joint though. But he wasn't on Tip's level.

I never heard of Eric B being involved in that situation, and he didn't really punk Suge. Suge just stepped to Lyor and Chris Lighty stepped in and Suge calmed down.

Chris Lighty and the Violators held major weight back in the day, was muscling for the Native tongues and other rap crews, so he was respected enough to hold down Lyor in LA.
