Eric B was a still a DJ, worked for a radio station, he was also the one who found Rakim and taught him about rap.

Rakim was known for spittin before he hooked up with Eric B. I remember hearing it was supposed to be Eric B and Freddie Foxxx but he didn't show up to the session.

taught him about, not how to rap.
Cause he was a DJ with industry contacts and all that.

Back then a lot of rappers had Djs, I don't believe that just cause Eric B had street ties he wasn't into music, a great dj and had some production skills.

What do you mean? If Ra was already rappin before they met how did Eric teach him about it? You talkin about the industry side of things? From what I've Hershey wasn't a. Very good DJ anyway, he just had the connects and the muscle.

I have no doubt that he was the actual DJ when it came to performing, but it seems like dude has very little, or nothing at all to do with the beats that were made on the albums. When you think about it logically, it wouldn't make sense for someone to align them self with a guy that offered absolutely nothing to them so I think Eric B did offer some type of benefits to Rakim whether that was fronting money, connections, studio time, muscle, or booking.

If he was straight up extorting him why would he even bother giving Rakim any credit for the beats? They would have to split the money on that instead of it all going to his pocket. So i believe he would have strong armed that too. I just don't think he should get any credit at all for anything they did musically from what I've been seeing here.

Eric B was not only respected by Rakim but other rappers like Kool G and shyt. What I'm saying I've heard from other people with knowledge about the NY rap scene back then so I'm not sure. Whats said is that it would be no God MC with all the gold, sports cars and shyt if it wasn't for Eric B. It would be no biggest contract in rap at the time, and all that.

I should've said "taught him about the rap game."
