It's no real proof that Kobe wouldn't sign for less at least none that I've seen. I'm not sayin that there isn't the possibility that he wanted to be paid that much it wouldn't even shock me.
But the Kobe contract is the fault of the front office more so than Kobe, they shoulda waited til the end of the season to make that move instead of overbidding. That's something Doc wouldn't of done, Kobe respected Doc so he would've been obliged to take a cut. But when you think about it, it was Doc that wanted jim to take over, it was Doc that essentially pushed Logo out for jim, it was Doc that ultimately chose jim over Phil the first time around. The 3peat years was a double edged sword, we were successful but it was also when the jim buss cancer first took hold on the Lakers.

Simply put, most players in the NBA know full well that jim buss is a coked up megalomaniac with absolutely no real clue about running a sports team other than being a failed horse breeder prior to his bright idea of joining the Lakers to destroy them. The indecisiveness, his reliance on only selling the Lakers prestige over having a real plan, the soap opera dramas that come with jim and jeanie for that matter have pretty much ruined the Lakers with regards to being a serious basketball organization. Why would any superstar player with no past ties to the Lakers want to be stuck with a drug addict controlling basketball operations and basically your chances at a title?

His reasoning?Mike Dantoni was more long term than Phil Jackson. Dantoni lasted 2 years, the same amount of time Phil was willing to commit to. Now he's undecided on what type of coach to hire next .
-Had a chance to trade Bynum for Carmelo, a move both PJ and Kobe pushed for. He declined. Offered Bynum a 5 year 75 million which Bynum(and his agent) thankfully declined-- he wanted 5yr 100 million as an unrestricted FA
-Traded 4 draft picks(2 first and 2 second) for
Steve Nash and gave him a 3 year 27m contract extension
