I don't think it's the ruthlessness as much as it is the egos of these other players who refuse to play with Kobe. The media loves Kobe, and any success the Lakers have will always be attributed to him, and the new guy would probably be the scapegoat if the Lakers didn't succeed (see Pau/Dwight). There's no way Kobe would pull a Wade and fall back to a new star coming in. Guys like Melo, Bron, etc. want their own shine.

I'm pretty sure free agents saw how jim went against dwight's wishes and allowed for his petty feud with Phil to influence his decision to hire f'ucktoni. Any sensible free agent knows jim buss is unstable and won't make decisions to keep you around if it harms his bullshyt ego. Simply put, most players in the NBA know full well that jim buss is a coked up megalomaniac with absolutely no real clue about running a sports team other than being a failed horse breeder prior to his bright idea of joining the Lakers to destroy them. The indecisiveness, his reliance on only selling the Lakers prestige over having a real plan, the soap opera dramas that come with jim and jeanie for that matter have pretty much ruined the Lakers with regards to being a serious basketball organization. Why would any superstar player with no past ties to the Lakers want to be stuck with a drug addict controlling basketball operations and basically your chances at a title?

A couple of things you forgot my man,
• Jim Buss tossed Derek Fisher in the bushes like yesterday's garbage
• Jim Buss went as far as firing the Lakers equipment manager who had been there for 29 years just because he was close to Phil.
• Jim Buss gave Brian Shaw an interview and never even called him back.
• The only reason Melo even met with the Lakers was because of Kobe
• Only 2 stars that won't play with Kobe are sensitive phakkits like D12/Bron
• Kevin Love and Westbrook were actually begging to come here on the low.
• SAS talks to the most players of any reporter and word is out Jim Buss is an idiot.. now without PJ no one wants to risk it.
• Jim Buss actually offered a 4 year max contract to an ancient Dirk Nowitzki
Last thing is that Stephen A Smith is right about Buss, be talks to more players than any other reporter. Last thing Kobe would have 7 titles with the Spurs FO.
