i don't think that's entirely true. while the whole "bring NY back" rhetoric has become annoying, repetitive and embarrassingly unfulfilled, i do think as a city we want to see our MCs at the top of the food chain again. NY Hip Hop was what made the city really move. I was a kid during the 90s but some of my fondest memories were the music that surrounded me in every situation. my mom and godmother's used to go to the tunnel and come back with stories. i remember the energy that hip hop specifically gave to the city. it's not just about having one of our own on top just for show. we have a rich vibrant history on our streets and blocks here. it would be nice to see it restored OFFLINE. i post online and enjoy it, but i experience hip hop through my real world experience. i guess i'm old enough to remember the greatness of the past and still young enough to want to see one of my peers do it again like how BIG, Jay, Nas, Pun and others did it for their era....but to be represented in the right way.

ironically as i wrote this a car outside my window was blasting Ocho Cinco by French and I couldn't help but laugh.....this is who we have representing NY?

Reading some of these bullsh*t responses.....It draws me back to a few years ago on SOHH when I declared that BattleRap brought life back to the Hip Hop culture and a bunch of nobodys went on about how Battle Rap was going nowhere......Messageboard heads are the worst when it comes to predictions in Hop Hop.

Asap is doing pretty well and I don't know how he could be the last hope as if the apocalypse was around the corner?

Why are you moving focus away from your own city though? Boiiiii

I hope not because his music has been getting worse ever since he dropped 1999. That lazy flow is just not working.

a lot has changed in the city since those days. nikkas ain't sittin on the block discussing "NY last hope". we bumpin what we like and not worried about shyt we can't control like the declining popularity of NY hip hop artists. it's largely irrelevant to people who aren't absolute fanatics

King of Detroit :dead:

You nikkas are taking L's all around, from the king's sophomore doing half of what Asap did with his debut. To the original king dropping serious garbage, to your city actually decreasing in population to motherfukking cities going bankrupt.

You've got enough shyt to worry about breh :whew:

Bada$$ is too boring.

All this "last hope of NY" talk from out of towners and cats not from NY is silly. I swear no one from NYC is actually bothered by this. Jay-z and Nas are still going strong, then you got cats like Raekwon who still show flashes here and there. They're vets, but so what?

But at the same time, it holds merit when NYC media wont even get behind NYC artists. Kid Capri said something about NYC DJ needing to do a better job supporting NYC artists....you go to Chicago, they play those cats on the radio....I went to LA, they play Kendrick and YG and em all the time.

who is the "average" NY hip hop fan? because there's people that just listen to what's hot and don't care who it is. then there are people like me in their mid to late 20s who understand the game, the politics, the history, and have become passive, but still want it done.

then there's the new age hip hop hipster who took the scholarly approach and studied, analyzed and listened to everything over a 3-5 year period and has become an annoying hip hop wikipedia prick. they have the facts and the history but have no experience or story to tell.

they can't tell you where they were when they heard Ether for the first time when Hot 97 dropped it. They don't remember how the city was going crazy. They don't remember the L us Hov' fans silently took when he responded with Superugly and how the streets had that :snoop: / :umad: / :pacspit: vibe as the lines began to be drawn. That was the day when alot of nikkas had to officialy choose :ahh: or  for the first time in the history of the city. But these pricks will be the first ones to start the debate. They don't remember the day BIG died or his hearse riding thru the stuy. They don't remember listening to the great Hot 97 interviews and freestyles live on air, before you could replay it on YouTube 8 years later. They don't remember the morning after Puffy , Shyne and J.Lo shot up the club and the newspapers the next morning going bananas. They don't remember the :gladbron: in the air on the streets when word got out Dame signed Dipset to the Roc....and made Cam VP ...while it was rumored Hov' was on vacay :scusthov:. The thought and debate of the pure fukkery at the Roc had the streets buzzing and again, picking sides. You rockin' with the dip or the roc? It wasn't a thing to study hip hop like they do now. NY Hip Hop was a lifestyle that permeated all streets and boroughs if you were tuned in. Before TMZ and the internet blogs, the barbershop and the stoops had the official scoop about what went down. I can remember the thirst of the streets for the next SMACK or FORBEZ DVD, Dip Set or G-Unit mixtape. NY had every facet of the game covered from the radio and native DJs, to the independent mixtape/dvd grind to the mainstream gawds refusing to let other nikkas get a plate at the table.

All i'm saying is nikkas keep acting like the reign was ages ago. When i reflect, it baffles me that it really wasn't that long ago. It can seem that way if you get caught up in the internet hearsay.

there is no average NY Hip Hop fan. Either you understand the breed and pedigree of MC we produce and wish to see it come back full circle, or you're just looking for the next nikka that the internet streets feed to you with a decent flow and catchy adlibs, over some hot production with a fresh download link.

:wow: the passion. I really got introduced to the game hearing black star. Before that I was used to whatever was on te radio. I was :mindblown: at the skill and the artistry.

I was surprised to hear you NY cats don't care about progressing the art no more :ohhh:
