Well, I'll just say it's two sides to the city

you can't deny the presence of the hipster style in the young nikkas these days. Tim Vocals and those dudes still from the ACG/Marmot/Tru Religion era so it's not the same.

No doubt, there are kids who are growing up in the hipster culture. Dont get it twisted either, I got no problem with it, I support ANYTHING NY, if I remember correctly, I think im the one who actually put the coli on to Ken Rebel n Vinny.

Its jus that, there needs to be a balance, it seems like there is a phasing out of the hood music wise in NY RAP, the streets are losing representation in the game. Which is a reason why NY is looking corny as fukk now. I tried helping some of these nikkas in Harlem, get my Dame Dash on. But it jus seems like all they care about is fukking the baddest bytch on their block n gettin love in the hood. These street cats are too short sighted. N until they get they head out the clouds, the reps of NY are gonna be lames like Joey Badass who know how to work a computer better than Tyrone down the block.

Harlem nikkas are def on some different, fitted, damn near couture shyt

No homo I didnt appreciate NY street style until I came down to NC... nikkas down here man :wow: Ball shorts and flip flops all day #dawgwhostyledem

As far as Joey, NO, simply for the fact that whatever will save NY won't be a reappropriation of its past, but a representation of whatever is going on in the city right now. You look at any wave, no city came up on some throwback shyt, nikkas fukked with shyt like the N.O. bounce and West Cauwst cause it was fresh and unlike anything theyd ever heard before (at least in NY).

The real question is, in this new NY, are there any stories worth telling? Is there still an environment of competition and creativity? IMO, no, and no. The only issue left worth talking about is gentrification, and there is no way to spin that into a narrative of power/strength that is essential to rap, IMO. And now in this image heavy era, its not so much about being the best, as much as it is having the best brand, which has nothing to do with the music.

Plus my nikkas Charly and Charles are locked away and mentally fried, respectively.

NY's rap scene is finished.

The fact that you say this without certainty means you haven't been here recently, and if you knew better you'd know that this is EXACTLY what's happening, but more importantly, it's a reflection of the city itself.

Does A$AP embody the quintessential Harlem nikka? In 2013, yes.

Does French for the BX? Yes. The people that claim they don't, have an outdated perception of what kids like there, what they dress like, and how they live.

French IN NO WAY embody the quintesstial BX dude. I know that for a FACT.
