What is your deal?

Kanye and Drake represent more segments of american society and day-to-day youth than street rappers have.

Period.
Drake's not even an American...And even if he was how many of them do you know that are former child television stars?

And Kanye's life is so far removed and out of touch with the average Black man that I don't even need to justify that statement with response...

If you want examples of" regular n1gga rap", you're completly barking up the wrong tree...

:russ: @ 36 year old millionaires with 32 year old millionare girlfriends that spend half their time in Paris representing "America's youth"

They represent your fantasy and aspirations... Know the difference..

I've said it before and I'll say it again, The Message by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious 5 is the greatest rap song ever created because it addresses everyday life in the ghetto while not glorifying it. There's a big difference between that and what Kanye and Drake are doing

THANK YOU. people acting like addressing real STREET issues is THE BIG problem. i can get the argument about glorifying negative aspects but to say that's all that happened just shows me how many amateurs there actually are in this section!!

This is why Kanye is forever the GOAT.

I remember when Kanye first came out and the world was like...WOW. Finally we can be OURSELVES.

Pseudo-hypermasculine dudes ruined rap music with that fake and overly imposed aggression.[/quote]

Yep. Sime people hate that black folk can be themselves. They still on that early 00s street life thinking that is how a 'real' black person should be.

I think this is a MAJOR significant turning point in the style of popular hip hop music

http://www.billboard.com/articles/news/1049182/kanye-crushes-50-cent-in-huge-album-sales-week
Kanye West's "Graduation" (Def Jam) easily leads the star-studded class of Sept. 11 releases, posting The Billboard 200's largest sales total in more than two years. Nielsen SoundScan will show West's album moved 957,000 during its first six days when the tracking service refreshes its charts tomorrow morning (Sept. 19).

Also pumping album volume are 50 Cent's "Curtis" (G-Unit/Interscope), which will lock down the No. 2 slot with 691,000 sold

Eminem was the first soft rapper. Then Kanye. I cant say eminems presence allowed kanye in the door, but maybe, subtly. People were more open to other styles of rap on a mainstream level.

3 Stacks kinda laid the cornball blueprint but he was so good we turned a blind eye.

Kanye, Pharrell sort of built on that with less skill.
