Even with today's social media Kevin Hart is still not as big as Eddie Murphy was in the 80's... and that should tell you something. Just think if Eddie Murphy had Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube ect... back in the 80's.

Eddie Murphy had a hit TV show, hit movies and hit records in the early 80's... and then in the later part of the 80's he still made classics like "Raw". "The Golden Child" and "Coming to America".

Eddie Murphy was HUGE in the 80's.

Kevin Hart = Famous Comedian.

Eddie Murphy = World Wide Super Star!

In the 80's Eddie Murphy was in that group with Micheal Jackson, Madonna, Prince, Sting, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Stallone... Eddie Murphy was a "True" Super Star... Eddie Murphy was in that group of the biggest stars in "World" of entertainment.

When I think of Kevin Hart... I don't put him in the category of the biggest stars in the world... Kevin Harts not even on that level of famous... but Eddie Murphy was on that level the 80's.

Not overall, but we're talking about in the same timeframe, absolutely. If he keeps the same pace he will surpass Eddie Murphy, but ONLY if he ever starts having leading roles, which I can't see because I can't see how Kevin Hart can carry a movie solo.

They weren't giving out huge salaries in the 80s like that, but Eddie's 90s and 2000s paper? :whoo:

Actor Eddie Murphy [The Movie Times] - Box Office, Movies, Gallery, Biography, and more

Tbh I'm not sure Kevin even makes 8 mill a movie like Eddie did in the 80s or he hovers around that number depending on the movie(salaries don't really get disclosed as much these days unless it's really noteworthy like depp's check for the next pirates film or Downey Jr's marvel money)

Hell no bro. He has no classics under his belt. Beverly hills cop, trading places, coming to america, etc. How many of Kevin Hart's movies made over 100 million where he was a main character. Haven't looked up all of em but so far i just see ride along. Kevin hart is social media big. 24 million twitter followers. But trust me, if twitter was around back in the 80s. Eddie would have had a huge huge following
he's always the annoying sidekick he has no star quality like eddie

Its like comparing Wilt Chamberlain to Shaq. 2 different eras.Eddie dominated the 80's plus didn't he have a hit record too.Dude was the man.Kevin can sell out stadiums but whats left for him has he peaked?
More like Wilt to Dwight Howard

Kevin Hart isn't Hall of Fame status. He's just a famous comedian

I saw Kevin hart when he came to Essence Fest last year. I saw Rickey Smiley when he came to Minneapolis. Rickey was way funnier. But everyone has diff comedy tastes.

You have to account for inflation. The dollar was stronger back then.

Eddie Murphy was probably the biggest entertainer not named Michael Jackson at the time.

Hollyweird doesn't even allow its stars to get that big anymore ...gives them too much leverage when negotiating contracts...the 80's core of stars where the most hyped and gassed up probably since the grace kelly 50's...the "Reagan Era":troll:

So, I want to ask this question - who are those stars today? I mean, of course they were global and untouchable at that time, but is this looking back on history with rose colored frames?

Who is super untouchable mega star today? Beyonce, Lebron...Leonardo?

They don't want them to be too big because paying out 20 million plus back-end on total ticket sales sucks for a movie company.

Shyt, Eddie himself is indicative of this. Pluto Nash anyone?

And then have the movie bomb...that's why what Kevin Hart is doing is some major shyt, small budget and it's making 3-6 times on its ROI.

The industry has changed, Eddie was the last actor ever to sign an exclusive movie deal with a company. His made more money when adjusted for inflation, but the studios put more money in their films and marketing when adjusted for inflation too.

And believe, I'm not caping for Hart either, I can quote Raw and Delirious line for line...greatest stand-up ever to me.
