This year, I'm focusing my energies on building out programs to support Black women and queer authors and to grow Black queer and trans organizing on the ground.
How are y'all focusing this year? What one or two things can you take on realistically?
2/35

atimaomara.bsky.social
Focusing on my writing, and programmatic work that can support/engage community

Not taking anything away from Senator Padilla because he was treated atrociously
But I JUST want to remind everyone that the Congresswoman LaMonica McIver, a Black woman, was just indicted for just asking questions at an ICE detention center in her state
Keep that same energy of support for her

atimaomara.bsky.social
And they attempted to use physical forced with her as well to remove her from the site.
She almost got detained with Newark Mayor Baraka if one of her white Congressional colleagues hadn’t grabbed her

marniekaplan.bsky.social
Yes she was the one pushed and shoved by the officers but they charge her with assaulting them. It’s a totally false accusation.

juststeller.bsky.social
Yes!

joshuatanzer.bsky.social
It's actually a continuing escalation, beginning with Judge Hannah Dugan, then Ras Baraka, the LaMonica McIver, and now Alex Padilla. Don't expect it to stop here. What's happening is that the power of the state is being used to stamp out resistance and independent authority.

May they all sue DHS and Noem directly - get all the discovery out in the public.
What agencies are providing them legal support?
9/35

mom2dabeach.bsky.social
Alina Habba is the one to sue in NJ

Ah yes, the parking lot lawyer

MSNBC interviewing Congresswoman McIver right now and connecting the dots.
I salute her for her service.
12/35

kevinhile.bsky.social
I support them both
13/35

dsk66.bsky.social
Absolutely! The problem is these people are trampling the law and people’s rights at such a pace it’s hard to keep up and maintain support for those trampled yesterday and deal with the ones trampled today. But we MUST keep pressure up for every single one.
14/35

nivula.bsky.social
They don't want anyone to know what they are doing bc they are robbing the government of funding for it.
15/35

jrtomlin.bsky.social
I hope that she was not also physically assaulted as Senator Padilla, a Hispanic senator, was.
16/35

dudeistpriestess.bsky.social
Indicted on what charges? She is well within her senatorial rights to enter the ICE facility and ask questions.

Why call attention to the race and gender of a person who you feel was wronged? It undermines your message and demeans the person who was wronged. Remember a wise person said that race and gender don’t count….its the content of the character that matters.
18/35

batgurl62.bsky.social
The three people that they have arrested, that are in the government have been people of color. Seems like it's a pattern
19/35

mj-1955.bsky.social
Not everyone Do you consider judges to be part of the government
20/35

batgurl62.bsky.social
The judges in this country are compromised,
21/35

mj-1955.bsky.social
You mean, compromised more than the government itself somehow I doubt it
22/35

thesoutherndad.bsky.social
In a world of Chuck Schumers, be LaMonica McIver.
23/35

thedo0dah62.bsky.social
Correct…keep both to the forefront of what this regime is doing.
24/35

youngcrone.bsky.social
There's kind of a pattern here, ennit?

You can do both

Absolutely!

ICE needs to be stopped, investigated & have their credentials investigated! If they were part of the criminals who caused the destruction at the Capitol, they should not have any authority as law enforcement! They are criminals! A pardon from a convicted criminal doesn’t make them clean!
31/35

mariasol01.bsky.social
The same goes if they were part of the database documenting police misconduct that was recently erased by this administration.
32/35

Yes!! I do!

Absolutely!!! We've got to hold up our electeds & have their backs.
35/35

nancielina.bsky.social
I'm doing that every day! I've seen the recording. It looks to me like she was focused on protecting the Representative she was accompanying, who is 82(?) yrs old and frail. I cheer LaMonica on! They have nuttin' on you!
