I do not like his music. But I gotta say I'd rather have his positiveness in the scene than any fake thugs plants like Keef/Chainz/

This isn't about whether this guy is talented or not or has lyrics...

It's just fishy this guy came out of nowhere seemingly. He comes off as a gimmick to me.

All I'll ever see this him as is a white dude that co-opts the struggles of gay people without actually experiencing them

And using black music to make money. All the while putting both down simulatenously and turning them into a talking point.

The thing that gets to me about this guy is this; the LGBT community has put this guy on a pedestal for championing the rights of it (which isn't a bad thing). But there have been many other black rappers that have spoken out against homophobia before him...yet that somehow has gotten erased from history as this guy came onto the scene.

I feel that the people that listen to Macklemore WOULDN'T listen to someone like Eminem so he can't even be placed on his level or on the level of other white or black rappers or rappers period. In their eyes, ALL rap/hip-hop is violent, homophobic, misogynist, criminal, and every other negative term you can think of so they wouldn't even give it a chance.

Example: I was at a bar in Bushwick and I was talking to this older white woman (about 30 something) who was a fan of his and she said that Macklemore is the only rapper she ever listened to.

Discuss...

I just watched that Same Love video.

Got to call a spade a spade.

Macklemore does benefit from white privilege. And he is a culture stealer. But there's a bunch of white rappers out now and none of them have done a song like Same Love. Mac Miller wouldn't make that song. Logic wouldn't make that song. Asher Roth wouldn't make that song. They know that shyt would have been career suicide and all their credibility would be shot. Macklemore took a risk with that. And the gay community got behind him.

On second thought now, I do think a black rapper could have made that song and been successful. Problem is no black rapper would ever dare to put out a record/video like that. It couldn't have been a gangsta type rapper but, if somebody like B.o.B. made Same Love, I guarantee white people/gay people would have loved it the same.

Murs made a gay song a few years ago and even kissed a dude in the video....the production value of the song wasn't as "grandiose" as Same Love tho....being white also helped very much

i just want to know how much he's actually making & where he'll stand in next year's Forbes list. i'm really eager to see that.

Maybe you should be eager to see how much you are making instead of someone else. Who gives a shyt if its not going into your pocket.
