I don't know what he's shown. I didn't watch him.

You think you know what's he's shown by not watching him and SOLELY relying on stats.

That's the point. It's fake sports talk

And these specific stats have a large enough of a sample size to show Mettenbergers numbers indicate he'll be a below average starter/backup.

It's not yours.

You didn't watch him. You're dikkriding a stat gatherer and calling what his eyes saw as your own.

Mett has cement feet. He was very inaccurate with his deep passes. He literally threw the ball into the defenses hands. He has the arm but I'm not sure he has anything else :patrice: he's like a poor man cutler just reckless for no apparent reason.

Hopefully mariota pans out and handles business!

To be fair, here's the deal on Mettenberger, really any QB:

If I'm an NFL GM and you're 0-6 as a starter, and I nor any other NFL GM wanted to take a risk on you before the 6th round then you best believe I'm looking for your replacement.

At the end of the day, a 6th round QB who's 0-6 is proving why he was a 6th round QB. If you have a chance to draft a franchise QB when the time presents itself, you take the risk.

In Tennessee offense...Mettenburger is probably going to be better...

Will have to hold reservations about Mariota until he gets out of Tennessee cause I expect that shyt to go south real quick...

Either he wins the starting gig and comes out playing horribly and they start the "mettenburger is mettenbetter"

Or Mettenburger straight up wins the job and then they start the "wait this dude can't get in front of Mettenburger? Jameis already knows the playbook and..."

Mariota is a spread QB out of that popcorn college system..

Mettenberger is a classic pocket passer who has some toughness and is brash. I like him and I thought he was a steal as a 5th rounder comin off that ACL.

To me he is better than Mariota.
Mettenberger is better because he is tough and brash

word. i wonder if chip kelly would be willing to trade for mariota after a year or two (if he even still with the eagles). A year or two on the bench can lower a players trade value with the quickness.

I'm not defending anything tooth and nail. The stats are the stats- and history proves Mettenberger would be an anomaly if he turns into a quality starter. DVOA isnt an opinion- with QB's is very straight forward. If you want to bet against history, go for it- I'm just telling you its not in your favor to do so.
Two seasons ago, the DVOA stats also said that New Orleans was better than Seattle on offense and defense and would have a higher win share than them. Seattle won the SB that year. Shows you how accurate your beloved DVOA is

This is apples and oranges. And without looking back, New Orleans having a higher ranked offense than the Seahawks isnt really noteworthy.

My thing is this...unless a rookie QB plays historically bad or there's a sure fire franchise can't pass on type player (Manning, Luck, Winston) then you give said rookie another year. You don't know what he's going to be. He's gonna play like a rookie cause that's what rookie QBs do. Wanting microwave results is only going to get you microwave quality food.

Thing is the likelihood of a 6th round pick ever turning into a quality starter is minimal. Other the Brady, there's no one....and he's obviously the extreme expection.

I'll correct myself slightly- the 6th round produced Marc Bulger and Matt Hasselbeck.

Dude tore his ACL in the final month of his senior season. He has higher round talent. Besides who gives a fukk what round he was drafted in? Once he's on the field that means jack shyt. In his 6 games he played like a rookie QB drafted in any round. Were Andrew Lucks rookie ints better ints cause he was drafted in the 1st round? No.

I only seen one full Mettenberger game, vs NYG and he didn't look that good.

NOW...understanding context and the fact that he was down big, early with a shytty team it is hard for me to use that against him....in fact, most of the game Tenn played (and I'm going off recollection), he was down and his team was pretty awful...I don't think stats tell the complete story when you factor that stuff in. He played the way I would expect a rookie to play under those circumstances.

Do I think Mariotta will be better? That depends on the team and system around him but I can't kill Mettenberger based on stats alone, it's not fair.

I DO think asking for a trade is some fukkboi shyt though....come out and win the job dude.
