Musical genius is not a literally true term, but in terms of some musicians just having endless creativity and finding it really easy to put a dope composition together? He falls into that category.
Hes a virtuoso of rap, like Coltrane was to the sax. I think if Meth had decided to produce, play drums etc you would see the same gift, like how Nas dad said Nas was a prodigy with the trumpet until he got bored and rap started taking his time up.
“That was back in the days when I would even work the board. I did all the mixing and mastering on my second album. I did all the echos, the beat dropping out, and coming back in. RZA used to let me do that shyt a lot. I was supposed to go in a whole different direction. It was just that towards the middle, I was like, ‘Nah. I’m not as interested as I used to be.’
“Like I made the beat to the St. Ides. song ‘Special Brew.’ RZA sampled the drums, but that’s me playing the keyboard on that original St. Ides shyt. I just don’t do it often because I’m lazy. I did ‘Judgement Day’ too. I put that together. Mind you, I didn’t sample any of the music. I just put it together the way I liked it.
I knew about St Ides, but Judgement Day is interesting. I would have previously thought 4th basically did that, but it also doesn't sound like a 4th Disciple beat either.
Judgement Day

Judgement Day is a co-production w/ 4th same way St Ides was co-prod w/ RZA. It's properly credited on the album:
Really weird that hes not able to put out a solid solo project for so many years despite probably being the most popular member of the Clan and whatever cultural relevancy his acting brings
hes still passionate, he can spit with his peers, just doesnt make sense...
and i know it wouldnt do numbers but still feel theres room for it
we aint gonna be around forever Meth...
i count no limit top dogg and doggfather as well, but i am beyond done with snoop dogg these daysdepends who u ask for snoop...he has 6 solid albums imo
meth eh... he was able blend in with the wu..crazy that dirty put 2 albums better than anything meth could put out ...n one album dirty literally was repeating himself lol..
reggie noble carried meth on everything they did

yea neither has anyone else... one of the most overrated emcees EVERTalib Kweli has penned for Drake. I have never heard a full Kweli album
I feel you, but at the same time, what he's doing isn't not producing either...if that makes any sense. There can be a really fine line between writing and producing, and to me what Meth was talking about in that video really blurs the line. He's a dope emcee but musical genius is a stretch especially considering he doesn't play, arrange or produce actual music
He just pieced together different lines from different songs which tons of rappers do
