Musical genius is not a literally true term, but in terms of some musicians just having endless creativity and finding it really easy to put a dope composition together? He falls into that category.

Hes a virtuoso of rap, like Coltrane was to the sax. I think if Meth had decided to produce, play drums etc you would see the same gift, like how Nas dad said Nas was a prodigy with the trumpet until he got bored and rap started taking his time up.

Yeah I know, just often when a rapper produces the track I'm not thinking they actually did much. This seems like Meth was responsible for the direction and 4th probably just polished it up. It has a unique sound so would have been interesting to see what could have happened if Meth kept at it.

For example if you look at tracks Ghostface produced, they're pretty basic samples.

Really weird that hes not able to put out a solid solo project for so many years despite probably being the most popular member of the Clan and whatever cultural relevancy his acting brings

IIRC he said from the beginning that the whole solo star thing wasn't what he was aiming at, so that probably translates in the energy/focus he puts in those solo albums. I firmly believe that some guys just work better in groups. For me Deck falls in that category too. Has nothing to do with lyrical talent/flow either.

Genius is used too much in the arts and it is subjective as fukk compared to the sciences.

But if you want Method Man to be a genius he is full stop. He is a writer first and foremost with his delivery can be seen as genius.

He's a dope emcee but musical genius is a stretch especially considering he doesn't play, arrange or produce actual music

He just pieced together different lines from different songs which tons of rappers do

I feel you, but at the same time, what he's doing isn't not producing either...if that makes any sense. There can be a really fine line between writing and producing, and to me what Meth was talking about in that video really blurs the line.
