I mean, I wouldnt call Meth first shyt no classic (I really dont go there anyway with shyt cause dont nobody be talking about no, so & so's shyt classic in real life) but his shyt was solid:yeshrug:
Bring the Pain
Release ya Delf
PLO Style
Mr Sandman
Stimulation
All I need
"Whats that shyt that they be smokin?!
Tical...
Tical...

Pass that over here then!!"
shyt, most these bullshyt albums now barely have 2 listenable tracks on them bytches.:deadmanny:
Edit: Far as his career being a disappointment?
Na... I think he did his thing for the most part
Had some hits
some misses
same as any other rapper
the thing about him though is that once all the other wu members started dropping shyt, you GZAs and Raekwons and Ghosts people kinda just forgot about duke being that "popular" "he gotta make bangers each time out" typa muthafukka
he had a nice run
Hip Hop and outiside of Hip Hop

I've said this before so sorry if someone is tired of this comparison, lol

but I once made a weird ass (but imo somewhat accurate) comparison that Meth is Ray Allen of Hip Hop... his guest verses= Ray's 3pt shooting (meaning he's pretty much the goat or at least top3 in that category). In his prime he was up there with the best of em (Big/Nas/Hov/Pac etc.) but never the biggest or the most successful (or most critically acclaimed) alone. And when he won the championship (=classic albums Meth has been on) he wasn't the #1 option when it happened, but it wouldn't have happened without him (albums he was featured on which were better than Tical needed his verses/hooks/songs to be that great, not only WU's debut & some solos, but he had the only guest verse on RTD & the most memorable guest verse on AEOM)

For me..a big wu dude. meths style became obsolete. he has the distinct flow and voice. but for whatever reason i was never hyped to hear his shyt much after 2000. 4.21 album had some dope cuts but the rawness isnt there anymore. His career was great, always was a step away from huge stardom but he a household name so maybe he didnt underacheive. A lot of rappers would love to have meths career.

Meth's my favorite MC ever..as I've stated many times. I don't think he's the greatest of all time but he is my favorite so I've given this a lot of thought: Meth suffers from just being underwhelming to a lot of hip hop heads and he hasn't done anything remotely wack since 2006 when 4:21 dropped, which is a very good album but dudes lame out on it because they figured after tical 0, how could he possibly recover? He made a huge mistake on that album which he admits but 4:21, his subsequent work with Wu, Wu-Massacre, Blackout 2, and any guest verses he's done since then have all been on point. The only thing that's missing, and this is a problem of his, is a solo album in the past 8 years. That's not a good look and I know he's got some insecurities on dropping an album and has dealt with some label issues and just being pulled in different directions (Wu, hollywood, working with Redman) and he suffers from a lack of focus at times at least that's how it seems.

Now as far as an MC goes, he's one of the greats. There isn't a thing he can't do on the mic, there isn't a flow he can't master and if we all agree that tical 0 is trash, that's still 3 good albums on his resume, along with two good albums with Redman and good output from Wu. I'd say that's pretty great. He's underrated as an MC because he gets the tag of being the prankster or jokester or pothead but when you break his bars down and just look at the flow, how can he not be underrated? And Shadowboxin was his song, I'm not just saying that as in he dominated but GZA said it was his song, which is why GZA only has one verse. RZA wanted to put it on GZA's album and the rest is history. His popularity among the masses hasn't been eclipsed in Wu although Ghost and Rae most of the love from heads which I understand, don't let meth's demeanor fool you into thinking he can be fukked with on that microphone. Underrated

redman has 4 classic solo albums and one classic group lp
but meth has three tical blackout and also 36 chambers imo.

Its like splitting hairs. I always thought Redman was more entertaining and could carry an album better. Redman would have like 17 tracks 5 skits and only a few features. Matter fact his first album only had 1.

First off, Tical can't be a classic as it's MANKIND'S MORST HORRIFICALLY MASTERED ALBUM.

That was part of the appeal though. Before Wu Tang Forever came out all the albums had mad technical mistakes. Those albums were so raw but that's part of what I liked about them

In a sense, he has kinda been a disappointment. Meth is one of the most talented gifted rappers of all-time, but his solo output in 2 decades has been nearly non-existent and his catalog is average at best. Even though I liked Tical alot, I don't consider it a classic, but I can understand if others might. It might be the GOAT album to workout to though lol. 4:21 was a really good album and it proved that he didn't fall off.....Meth can still rap circles around dudes right now. I just think he got real lazy, lost his hunger and got caught up in the fame. I can't speak on '94, but in the late 90's when I was getting more into Hip Hop, Meth was one of the biggest rappers in the game. It just seemed after Tical 2000 came out, fans didn't see him as that dude anymore. He had then been surpassed by Ghost, ODB and the new breed of NY rappers at that point (The Jay's, The Pun's, The DMX's, The Ja's)

I saw someone say Meth is the East Snoop.....Atleast Snoop has a universal classic, multiple good albums and has been highly consistent of dropping music.

I really didn't agree with him being called the East Coast Snoop. Snoop might be the most recognizable face in all of hip hop
