You do realize waiters basically don't get paid by the restaurant
They get paid $2.13 a hour in most states... Which ultimately gets eaten up by taxes. In fact most waiters NEVER receive an actually paycheck...
I used to be waiter so with that said if I got a 3 dollar tip for anything less than $25 its straight up
on a 60 dollar check 10 dollar should be the min.
I would expect 11 or 12 dollars on a 60 dollar check.
Please keep that in mind when you are tipping your waiter, It's likely that "3" dollars or so may be a large portion of what they made that night..
The waiters also have to tip out some of their cash before they leave work.
It could be a sad sad profession on many days.

No disrespect but this makes me want to tip less. 39-52k a year for waiting tables? Undeserved.
Tip what you think the person deserves nothing more nothing less. Evaluate their service and make a decision.

Thankfully the few cheapskate diners who don't tip are a minority, there are still tons of people out there who do tip, it's those that do who actually help keep the morale at your favorite restaurant high, cause god know what restaurants would be like if everyone refused to tip. Just stop and think about that for a second. What would be the outcome? The only one think I can think of is that restaurant food prices would increase more frequently than they often do.

Another thing I hate. Why should I tip more on food that cost more? If one plate cost $10 dollars and another cost $200. Why should I tip more on the $200? The waiter isn't doing extra work.

I've done all sorts of work, now I'm a grown man with 2 degrees more than half way through my Masters and I can say with confidence that serving or Waiting tables in high traffic restaurants isn't easy work. Of course you would have had to do it in order to know. Ignorance is bliss in this equation. Waiters get no break, often work double shifts, deal with insane managers and the worst of the worst guest (you really just have to let Sh*t roll off to be good).... most people simply do not understan the work it entails, but of course I can't expect anyone to know how it isi on the outside looking in. until I started to wait table at one point it thought it was SOOOOO easy. I', glad I did it before so I can empathize eith the current workers serving me. Though I've moved on to Bigger and better, I understand the "struggle"
I appreciate what you're saying here, but lets analyze the bolded for a second: many of the contributing factors in making the job difficult have to do with mistreatment from ownership. In a vacuum, the day-to-day duties that the job entails are not tremendously difficult. I could make laying down and watching tv "difficult", if I created enough adverse conditions to go along with the activity.
Again tho, my main gripe is the food service community constantly attacking average customers for being "cheap" and "un-appreciative", yet are curiously quiet about fat cat ownership who treat employees like sht and pay them little. Thats bullsht

lol at the ignorance in this thread. wow. but like i said in my first post yall no tippin niccas actually ruin it for the rest of us. the black people who actually go out to eat and dont think they are better then the person that is serving them.. i dont know about you all but i eat out A LOT. and most at the time its at pretty nice restaurants. im sick of being looked at like my black ass is not going to tip.
somebody had a very good point up above. go to the same restaurant every week for a month and tip good each time and watch how much the staff takes care of u. if i know i have a big tip coming im doing EXTRA to make sure there happy. this includes getting your food out faster, hooking up up with free food/more food. strong drinks, etc.
now let me know i have a bad tip coming to me and watch how quickly all that changes. who the hell would go out of their way for someone for a dollar or no tip at all!?!? ha would you? you cant complain about bad service and say you dont believe in tipping in the same sentence!! nicca the shyt goes hand in hand.
and to people saying i should find another job or attack my ownership for only paying me $2.13 an hour i actually am happy with my job. i put up with a lot of bullshyt and of course no matter what there will always be shytty tippers out there. i know i will never be able to change that. but overall i make about 750-1k a week doing what im doing which is perfect for my lifestyle. are people angry that i said black people dont tip? (which is damn near being proven in this thread) or that they think i shouldnt be complaining about low tips in general?

If you cant pay your employees a wage that doesnt mimic slave labor, then DONT START A BUSINESS! If you're not smart or talented enough to secure employment in a profession or company that will pay you what you feel you're worth, then DONT COMPLAIN! See how easy that was?
I dont know why you would encourage people to not frequent restaurants, btw. Yeah, that suggestion will certainly help the industry.
