Its too early in the stages to be respected. But its def in the future for sure.

I have a friend who was a recruiter for an online school and he straight up told me he felt so guilty because he knew these kids were throwin their money away. Havent talked to him awhile tho

Aside from perception, what is so bad about the Kaplans, ITT-techs, Devrys, etc.? Are they not teaching college level material? Are they too easy? I was always curious as to how they operated.

Was he referring to the school's reputation? Or was it more about the quality of the professors/material?

They're teaching college-level work, for sure. I'm speaking from experience as I've transitioned from on-campus learning to distanced learning. To me, online learning is a tad more difficult because it requires more discipline, which many younger guys simply do not have... but, like I said in my introductory post, I'll be transferring back to on-campus schooling for my pre med classes, but if I didn't have to, I surely wouldn't.

Don't go to any of those advertised online schools (Kaplan, Phoenix, Walden & others). They are worthless. Go to a real university that offers online degrees. There are many real, regional, private and public state universities that offer psychology degrees 100% online. If you need help finding one, let me know.

Whoa! I'm already attending Kaplan University. Why is this a bad choice?

Kaplan is a well known for-profit. It's on the wikipedia list.

Kaplan University - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It's for-profit, but it's regionally accredited, nonetheless. It offers externiships and other offline programs geared towards helping students gain career-related experience. Not every school is going to be "traditional", but they will be as times pass. It's something that must be built... much like trust. Discrediting a school with no reasons other than their profitable nature is hardly logical. Maybe they're for-profit because they are relatively new in comparison to the traditional universities that have been around for centuries. Idk.. I just know there has to be a better argument than just that... like the quality of the education, the level of skill I'm which a student must operate on to make it through the program vs. the level they leave with, and so forth.

Perception is a part of a schools reputation. It may not be fair, but that's how it is. You'd be better of going to a community college.

Just research the amount of complaints and investigations against them.

 It seems like you already have your mind made up about Kaplan.

Their main focus is profit, to get money. Their financial aid department is not where it needs to be. Also, many employers do not hire people who go to those for profit online schools, like Kaplan and Phoenix, because they feel they just hand out degrees to anyone. Whether they just hand out degrees, I don't know, but this is the common belief among many employers. These types of colleges are not as valued as real colleges. Getting a degree from these schools and having it rejected by employers is a waste of your time and money.

Also this school claims regional accreditation, but what they don't tell you is that they do not have full regional accreditation. While a few programs have received regional accreditation, others do not. You would have to do your research to find out if your particular degree program is regionally accredited.

You would definitely be taking a risk by going there. From what I hear, the instruction is on par with real universities. The problem is that Kaplan is not a respected college, they are money hungry, they pretend that all of their programs are regionally accredited when they are not, financial aid is a challenge, and more importantly most employers will not accept a degree from this college. Some will, but most won't. There is a reason these colleges are known as scams.

I'm only doing their online psych degree program until I reach 45 quarter hour credits so I can transfer into Georgia State University, though. My entire degree program is regionally accredited and my credits are indeed transferable, so I'm confident in my decision. You mentioned earlier that you knew of schools that offered the same bachelor's of science in psychology online, and though I will not be attending Kaplan University Online for more than an academic year, I am curious to know what you have found. Could you share your findings with me, please?

Many of these corporations that require people to STILL achieve education through inefficient traditional means and the reason for that is because they are ran by old fukks that can't comprehend change. Sad that we in America still do this 13 years deep in the 21st century.

Most institutions are scams with their overpriced tuition and lack of transparency.

I agree with that. But for-profit schools don't try to hide their money making schemes and are misleading. Plus, employers don't respect them = waste of time. If you're going to spend money on a degree, at least spend it on a degree that has a greater chance of getting you hired. :manny:
