Is Pharrell number one for longevity as a top producer in the game?

But producing a rock song isn’t like making a beat at all. It’s still very important for how the music is mixed and sounds but its not like hes writing the music

I've already said this a bunch of times in this thread. Thread title says "producer" not "beat maker." Everything you just said about how the music is mixed and sounds applies to what a producer does. That's why I made reference to Rick being a producer the same way P Diddy is a producer.

I’m not convinced that producer/beat maker distinction really works in Hip Hop, as whoever creates the beat invariably produced the track. Never understood the need for the distinction. Some production efforts are collaborative so in that situation you just have co producers listed. This is how remember it when looking at album credits back in the day.

Not sure about longevity he’s definitely in the GOATs for sure - I actually have him number 3 behind RZA at 1 and Dre at 2, with Primo at 4 and Havoc/ALC at 5.

What he has over all the above is that he can make some of the best RnB you ever heard and also some rock shyt:

But cause he’s a singing ass, Louis Vuitton creative director people underestimate his rap beats but he can make some hardest rap shyt out:

🐐 for sure.

Timbaland has him in that regard and its not close if we're including work outside of Hip Hop.

Supa Dupa Fly
It’s good album Timbaland did his thing Missy was hot artist at the time. But I don’t think many will look back at that record and think of it as a classic ‘Hip Hop’ album. Missy is a crossover artist who was at the time comfortable in many different lanes she’s was never really considered a credible mc like that.

Supa Dupa Fly is half R&B. I think Timbaland is better than The Neptunes overall though. Maybe not for rap albums, but for rap singles and R&B.

These are the only pure rap albums where Timbaland basically produced the whole album:

Welcome To Our World
Indecent Proposal
Under Construction 2
Deliverance
Girl Interrupted

Theres a few other rap albums where he did a bunch of tracks like MCHG, but for some reason he never crafted a full rap album with a truly great rapper.

Magoo, Ms Jade & Bubba sound good on Tim's beats. Those albums are classics to me (except UC2) anyway because the beats are ridiculous and the songs overall are just fun and well put together. But damn he could have hooked up with Nas, Mad Skillz, Busta Rhymes, Da Brat, Snoop etc in his prime for a full album and had a universal hip hop classic.

:mjlol:

You’re seriously putting that in the same realm as LW and HHNF as a Hip Hop classic?

All classic albums aren't the same. If we're being honest, there are people who laugh at the odea of LW and HHNF being classics. Doggystyle isn't Illmatic lyrically, but it is still as much a classic as Illmatic.

If we're being honest, Supa Dupa Fly is more of a classic than LW and HHNF. Why? This album was influential to both Drake, J.Cole, ASAP Mob. It was blending and bending Hip Hop and R&B before Lauryn Hill did it a year later. There is Hip Hop and R&B club in London named after this album. Album was still referenced by Pusha T on Almost Dry.

Supa Dupa Fly isn't half R&B. These are all the rap records on that album:

Hit Em Wit Da Hee
The Rain
They Don't Wanna
Pass Da Blunt
Don't Be Coming
Izzy Izzy Ah
I'm Talkin
Why You Hurt Me
Get Away

The intro is Busta Rhymes rapping. That's more than half of the songs.

TYRONE GA!
Okay, fine. I didn't know that. You don't have to hit me with the duck tales. He doesn't have 32 years. Fair enough. He's got 29, then. Is that not a lot of years?

This was like 96/97 right?

Hold up, P & Chad produced and wrote this :damn:

It is already and has been looked at as a classic album regardless if this board will agree to that or not. Supa Dupa Fly is hands down a classic album. This where The Booth is lost because they will question why Missy or her albums appear on all these lists, to which I ask where have ya'll been for decades. That album has been heralded as a classic since it dropped in 1997. It was topping critic lists even then.

Pharrell’s production was never anything special solo. He always shined when he was working with Chad and made his best work then.

Alc >>>>

By far too.

I’d say Tip is the GOAT but he ain’t been as active in the 2010s/2020s even though he made some bangers throughout. I still have this on repeat :

Wish he’d go on Alc type run just doing collab projects with some dope rappers but he’s done everything and has nothing to prove.

Some of those I would call R&B, they have sung verses and hooks, but also rapping.

Either way to me it feels like a hybrid as all Missy's albums. I'm not gonna say its not a Hip Hop album, but its definitely not only that.
