We can agree to disagree on that. They don't have more sales, they don't have more longevity, they aren't revered more by the youth today. They don't receive more love outside of the tri-state area but besides those important factors of relevancy....:manny:

Criminal Minded is arguably the greatest rap album ever made despite you being a contrarian, Young, asian Californian who lacks the good sense god gave geese.

By All Means Necessary - Gold Album

Ghetto Music - Gold Album

Edutainment - Gold Album

I Got Next - Gold Album

Rakim is the GOAT lyricist to anyone who’s being at all serious. He’s at least on the short list.

Paid In Full - Platinum Album

Follow The Leader - Gold Album

Let The Rhythm Hit ‘Em - Gold Album

The 18th Letter - Gold Album

I’m well aware Californians historically haven’t demanded the same quality from their local rappers that New York once did which speaks to a guy like E-40 being a luminary.

Ya know how Busta Rhymes pops up every 5 years or so and torches a feature on a trash pop rap song? Imagine a NYer claiming he was more relevant than Ice Cube.

Shame on you. Seriously.

Son, cut the dusty shyt out ... Rakim and KRS are legends but ain’t no one 35 years old and younger .. shyt I’ll even raise you to 40 and younger is listening to a KRS/Rakim/Kool Moe Dee before Pun/Jay/Nas/Biggie :russ: .. I honestly can’t listen to that 80s shyt outside of KRS/Rakim and even then I’d rather listen to Nas/Jay because they are better to me:yeshrug:

Speak for yourself :camby:

Probably the only genre where shytting on legends from the past is acceptable

shyt went from positive music to ignorant street rapper shyt that "bumps better in the whip" :francis:

Apparently rappers like LL Cool J, BDK, Rakim, KRS are only grandpa music

But these dudes will gladly play some NWA murdering other nikkas shyt, from the same 80s era :mjlit:

Bruh...

I hate to be preachy, but damn:francis:

Rakim and KRS-ONE are global ambassadors of hip-hop.

As a world-wide culture, E-40 does not exist in this realm.
In all my years living in the south ( since 92) I've not heared one cat, On some ohh we about to go get that Krs-1 or Rakim. Nobody, at least way reconized them as anything.

KRS and Rakim were dropping GOAT contender albums in 87. 40 didn’t go nationwide until 94.
Rakim was the consensus GOAT in the 90s and KRS wasn’t far behind. They were legends before people outside of the Bay even knew who 40 was.

Never heard E-40 in the streets of Philly

Meh

Like I said, in different markets these guys may not even exist.

And if 'Know the Ledge' wasn't getting played in your region in '92, you're disqualified from any hip-hop conversation.

Rakim had a nice 10 year run. Even if 40 only been national since 94 then that's still a 25 year run nationally and a 33 year run overall. He's remained consistent and outworked all those dudes.

He didn't have a nice 10 year run.

He had a legendary run.

You don't need to dismiss legends just to prop up a rapper you like.

The disrespect showed in this thread to genuine hall of fame tier 1 legends makes me very sad.
