He didn't have a nice 10 year run.

He had a legendary run.

You don't need to dismiss legends just to prop up a rapper you like.

The disrespect showed in this thread to genuine hall of fame tier 1 legends makes me very sad.
We talking about relevancy not skill breh.

I pretty sure know why this thread was made. OP was basically hoping to see people put E-40 in the same category as Rakim or KRS, and then read and dap any post shytting on 80s NY rap as some outdated grandpa music :mjlol:

Damn near every rapper from 80s and a lot of dudes from early 90s no longer make music. This doesn't mean that E-40 has done more to hip hop than any of those legends from the past just because E-40 has been making average music for 3 decades

All due respect, it sounds like you aren’t really aware of the magnitude of what Rakim and KRS did in their primes. I’m guessing you’re not my age (39).
I'm well aware of what they did in their primes breh. Rakim was once considered the best rapper in the game and many believe Nas got his whole style from him...Pac even alluded to it on "Against all odds". I'm not talking about what he did for the 10 years he was active.

I'm talking about if E-40 and Rakim both walked in a mall in Omaha Nebraska today, who would the youth recognize between E-40, Rakim and KRS-One and you know damn well they won't recognize Ra and KRS.

Then those other dudes should try making average music because I'm sure they'd trade that legacy for E-40's bank account and show money.

Why would they wish they had E-40's legacy. To make more money? You keep exposing yourself, not every rapper from the 80s era was making music to earn as much money as possible :mjlol: pick let's say Public Enemy...oh yeah I bet Chuck D wishes he was a fun cartoonish rapper coming up with new slang words with kids inviting him for a hip hop verse 20 years later like when them kids who order a clown for a birthday party :dead:

go compare e-40 to p-diddy or master p, them dudes all they cared was making maximum money from hip hop :dead:

You're insinuating E-40 sold out to remain relevant when that's not the case. He never switched up who he was and what he stood for. You can adapt without selling out breh.

40 has Scarface, Anthony Hamilton and K-Ci from Jodeci on his new album. Also has Chris Brown, Quavo, Fabolous, Boosie, Tee Grizzley and Payroll Giovanni on the same album.

Who else bridging generations like that? They all fukk with 40 for a reason.

I don't even know what you cats are arguing about.

40 is more relevant than KRS and Rakim because he tries to be. They haven't really made any overt effort to work with many new artists or even consistently put out new music.

40 put out "Choices" and had half the rap game, new and old, in the video. Could Rakim and KRS do that? Maybe, but the point is they never even tried. They don't really do interviews, radio appearances, etc. as often as 40.

And I honestly don't get the "old rappers" argument in relation to KRS and Ra. 40's first album came out in 1993. That's only 6 years after "Paid In Full" and "Criminal Minded".

People talk about 80's rappers as if it was 30 years before the 90's. All three of the people this thread is about, are old as fukk.

The point is not that they're old. The point is that 40's music spans multiple generations and the other guy's don't.

Which is what the whole first half of my post is about. They haven't made any effort....or, to word is more cynically....tried to pander, to multiple generations.

It's like talking about three actors from 30 years ago, one is still active and tries to star in moderately known movies every few years. Works with lesser known/lesser talented up and coming actors.

The other two peaked 20 years ago and don't really chase roles or attempt to do projects regularly.

One will obviously be more relevant than the other two. Has nothing to do with quality, or talent, or people liking them. Which is what people don't seem to be able to accept. The thread turned into "so who is better?" and/or "who sold the most records?" almost immediately.
