Most definitely one of the reasons.

But there is a lot more to do with it, specifically in this case parents and family. I grew up listening to the most hardcore shyt you could believe, but I have never been in trouble with the law. I've always had family influences to keep me on the straight and narrow, hard working law abiding citizens who love their adopted country without a chip on their shoulder.

Music for ALL races most definitely has an influence on how your mentality is. When guys break up with their girl, what's one of he first pieces of advice? "Listen to some hardcore shyt" or for the ladies its "Listen to some MJ Blige" Why? Because music influences your moods and feelings. Why do boxers walk out to theme music? Why do sports stars have their headphones stuck over their ears pre-game? Unfortunately in hip-hop in 2014, the majority of music is causing our generation to think negatively in regards to crime, drugs and women.

Music influences positively and negatively. And more so than any other form of media, because its portable. You don't have to sit down in-front of a huge screen to consume it like one would have to with TV, film or computer games, you can be on a train, in the car or on foot. Anywhere and everywhere

People who honestly think music does not influence the black community is incredibly naive

Rap isn't fully responsible, a lot of shyt has been going on since before rap existed but it damn sure hasn't helped the cause. And im not talking about Chuck D and them nikkas, im talking about the rappers who glorify doing and selling hard drugs, violence against one another, and objectifying females. This is why I can't ever be mad at rappers like Drake, Kendrick, and J Cole.. they aren't out here influencing kids to do negative shyt that sets us back as people.

50 Cent and Cam are 2 of my favorite rappers of all time but id be lying if I said they didnt influence young kids growing up in the early 2000s in a negative aspect.. this is speaking from experience, myself and a lot of people I knew were on some fake gang member shyt just cuz we saw our idols doing it. Luckily I grew out of that, I cant speak for everybody else though:mjpls:

I would say Gangster rap helped to fukk us up. Not rap in general. An example I like to use is the hood nikkas who love PAC. They don't move him for the pro black stuff that he tried to kick. They glorify him for that Thuglife shyt. It's the ignorant shyt he did that they get a kick out of so instead of having a positive influence, he had a pro-black influence and, of course a negative influence. You can't say he was positive because most his shyt was "riot not rally" shyt. However, he tried to be pro-black and militant. Never positive.

This is true, 2pac fans to this day still think 'hit em up' was a good look for him.
